The call

Regard has real hospital revenue proof but sits on top of Epic's data and Microsoft's capture layer, both of which can build its feature themselves.

Regard helps hospitals use artificial intelligence to find diagnoses doctors missed in patient records, which lets hospitals bill for more services. The company has real customers (over 150 hospitals) and has helped them make over 200 million dollars in extra revenue. But Regard faces two big threats: Epic, which owns the hospital record system that Regard depends on, just built its own AI tool in February 2026, and Microsoft, which controls the voice-recording technology Regard uses to get its data into hospitals, could build the same diagnosis-finding feature itself. The company also has not announced a new funding round since mid-2024, while similar companies raised much more money, which suggests investors may be losing confidence. The next six to twelve months will tell the story: if Regard either raises a big new funding round or gets bought by someone else, the company survives; if nothing happens and Epic's new tool keeps getting better, Regard's advantage disappears.

Why
01
AI pressure: Epic Systems native AI Charting. Epic shipped its own AI Charting in Feb 2026 on the same EHR data Regard mines, and could add diagnosis capture next. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Microsoft Dragon Copilot. Microsoft owns the ambient-capture layer Regard now distributes through and could build diagnostic insight natively, cutting Regard out. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. 150+ live hospital integrations and workflow habits that took years to build, hard for a platform feature to replace overnight.
What would change this call
Epic extends its native AI Charting to include diagnosis-recommendation or HCC-capture features within 12 months. Shows Epic swallowing Regard's core differentiator via its EHR platform control.
Regard announces a Series C round or acquisition by end of 2026. Shows whether Regard can fund itself against much larger-raising rivals like Abridge and Hippocratic AI.
Microsoft builds diagnostic-insight features natively into Dragon Copilot or acquires Regard. Shows whether Regard's distribution partner becomes its replacement.
Key numbers
  • 12M+ accepted diagnoses, $200M+ hospital revenue (2026-03-05)
  • $61M Series B at $350M valuation, no Series C since (2024-07-11)
  • 150+ hospitals deployed nationwide (2026-03-05)
Named risks
  • No funding round disclosed since July 2024 Series B while peers raise much larger rounds. Severity: high
  • Epic's native AI Charting tool (Feb 2026) could absorb Regard's core diagnosis-capture differentiator. Severity: high
  • Dependence on Microsoft Dragon Copilot for distribution risks disintermediation by the platform owner. Severity: medium
  • Analysts predict the ambient-AI vendor field will shrink over 12-18 months from late 2025. Severity: medium
  • Key traction metrics (12M diagnoses, $200M revenue) are self-reported and unaudited. Severity: low

Questions people ask
Is Regard profitable in 2026?
Regard has not disclosed profitability. It is private and has raised only $61M in a July 2024 Series B at a roughly $350M valuation. Per its own March 2026 press release, it has helped hospitals unlock over $200M in earned revenue and serves 150+ hospitals, but its own margins are undisclosed.
Could Epic's AI replace Regard?
Epic, which owns the EHR platform Regard depends on, shipped a native AI Charting tool in February 2026. If Epic extends that tool to diagnosis-recommendation and HCC capture, it could absorb Regard's core differentiator since Regard doesn't control the underlying EHR platform.
Who is Regard's biggest competitor?
Abridge is Regard's biggest rival, holding roughly 30 percent of the ambient-AI documentation market and a $5.3B valuation after a 2025 Series E, versus Regard's $350M valuation from July 2024, per Sacra research dated 2025-07-21.
Has Regard raised a Series C?
No Series C or later round has been publicly disclosed for Regard as of July 2026. Its last announced round was a $61M Series B on July 11, 2024, led by Oak HC/FT at roughly a $350M valuation, a two-year funding gap versus better-funded peers.
What does Regard's AI product actually do?
Regard's Proactive Documentation platform, powered by an AI agent called Max originally built on GPT-4, mines a patient's full EHR data to surface missed billable diagnoses and draft clinical notes; since July 2025 it also ingests ambient patient-physician conversation audio.
Who owns Regard?
Regard is privately held with no ticker. Its most recent funding was a $61M Series B on July 11, 2024, led by Oak HC/FT with Cedars-Sinai Health Ventures, TenOneTen, Calibrate Ventures and Techstars participating, valuing the company at roughly $350M.
