The call

Reward Gateway's discount network keeps clients locked in, but its engagement and AI features look copyable while parent Edenred's own headaches loom larger than any single rival.

Reward Gateway helps companies offer discounts and recognition programs to their employees, combining a large network of merchants with software that integrates into HR systems. Its discount business is hard to replace because of its 2 million merchant partnerships and deep connections to HR software, but its recognition and employee engagement features are becoming standard offerings that Achievers and AI tools can now deliver almost as well. The deciding factor will be whether Edenred's parent company, which is facing legal problems in Italy and Brazil, keeps investing in Reward Gateway's engagement features or cuts costs to protect its own bottom line.

Why
01
AI pressure: Generic LLM chatbots and Achievers/Awardco AI features. AI chatbots can copy recognition, surveys, and FAQ workflows, while rivals ship AI features faster than Reward Gateway's own assistant, still undelivered as of Feb 2026. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Workday, ADP, and Microsoft Viva (HRIS suite bundling). HR suites bundle engagement and recognition into existing payroll and HRIS contracts, threatening to make Reward Gateway a redundant add-on. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. A 2M+ merchant discount network and deep HRIS integrations that are costly for enterprise clients to rip out.

Questions people ask
Is Reward Gateway profitable?
At the time of its 2023 acquisition, Reward Gateway forecast FY2023 revenue of £95m and EBITDA of £45m, a roughly 47% margin, per its own press release dated May 16, 2023. No independent post-acquisition financials have been disclosed since Edenred folded it into its Benefits & Engagement segment.
Who owns Reward Gateway now?
Edenred, the France-listed employee benefits giant, acquired 100% of Reward Gateway on May 16, 2023 for £1.15bn (about $1.39bn), valuing it at 20x forecast 2023 EBITDA. It now trades as Reward Gateway | Edenred under Edenred's Employee Benefits division.
How many people work at Reward Gateway?
Estimates conflict sharply: Revelio Labs put headcount at 2,293 globally as of December 2025 (up 5.9% from 2023), while Crustdata reported only about 815 employees as of June 2026, essentially flat year over year with a growth score of 14 out of 100.

Could AI replace Reward Gateway's product?
Reward Gateway's own lower-complexity workflows, like writing recognition messages and answering benefits FAQs, are exactly what its new AI Recognition Coach and AI employee assistant chatbot automate, per its June 4, 2026 product update, making those micro-tasks replicable by general-purpose LLMs too.
What is Reward Gateway's biggest competitor?
Achievers is the closest rated competitor, outscoring Reward Gateway 4.8 to 4.5 on Capterra as of March 2026 with far more reviews. Awardco has also built a comparable merchant discount network, while Workday (via its 2021 Peakon acquisition) and Microsoft Viva bundle engagement features directly into HR suites.
