The call

Robinhood survives as a small fifth-place app in a market where two rivals already control roughly 90% of orders.

Robinhood was a food delivery app in Thailand that could offer super low fees because its parent bank, SCB, paid for the losses. When SCB sold the company in 2024, that advantage disappeared. Now Robinhood has only about 2% of the market while Grab and LINE Man Wongnai control 90% between them, which is exactly what happened to Foodpanda before it got bought out. The one thing that could matter is if Yip In Tsoi Group actually goes through with buying Foodpanda in Thailand and can build something real out of merging the two smaller players together; if that doesn't happen, Robinhood will probably keep shrinking.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. No AI product targets Robinhood directly; the pressure is human-scale, from two rivals' logistics and pricing scale. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Grab and LINE Man Wongnai. Grab holds about 46% and LINE Man about 40% of Thai food delivery GMV, leaving Robinhood around 2% and shrinking. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Yip In Tsoi Group's performance-linked earnout gives it a financial reason to keep the app alive through 2025 to 2026.
What would change this call
Yip In Tsoi closes (or abandons) acquisition of Foodpanda Thailand assets. Would show whether Robinhood gains scale or stays a marginal fifth player.
Robinhood ships a new product feature or discloses headcount changes within 12 months. Would show whether the company is being invested in or quietly wound down.
SCBX discloses whether Robinhood met earnout performance targets tied to the 1.6B baht contingent payment. Would show if post-sale performance is improving or still deteriorating.

Questions people ask
Is Robinhood Thailand profitable in 2026?
No. Robinhood (Purple Ventures) posted a 2.1 billion baht loss in 2023 on 724 million baht revenue, and its parent SCBX cited cumulative losses of roughly 5.5 billion baht over four years as of June 25, 2024, before selling the app.
Who owns Robinhood Thailand now?
Yip In Tsoi Group, a century-old Thai IT and industrial conglomerate, completed its acquisition of Purple Ventures (Robinhood) from SCBX on September 30, 2024, for up to 2 billion baht including a performance-based earnout of 1.6 billion baht.
Is Robinhood Thailand the same company as Robinhood Markets in the US?
No. Robinhood (Thailand) is a food delivery app run by Purple Ventures, originally an SCB/SCBX CSR project launched October 2020, entirely unrelated to Robinhood Markets Inc. (NASDAQ: HOOD), the US stock trading platform.
Could Grab or LINE Man Wongnai replace Robinhood Thailand?
They already largely have. As of 2024, Robinhood held only about 2% of Thailand's $4.2 billion food delivery GMV, while Grab and LINE Man Wongnai controlled roughly 46% and 40% respectively, tightening into a 90%+ combined duopoly by February 2026.
Who is Robinhood Thailand's biggest competitor?
Grab and LINE Man Wongnai form a duopoly controlling over 90% combined share of Thailand's food delivery market as of February 5, 2026, dwarfing Robinhood's roughly 2% share reported in April 2025.
Will Robinhood Thailand shut down like Foodpanda did?
Unconfirmed, but the risk is live. Foodpanda exited Thailand entirely on May 23, 2025 after 13 years, and Robinhood's ~2% GMV share and prior 2024 near-shutdown by SCBX suggest a similar trajectory absent a scale-changing acquisition.
