The call

Roth Staffing keeps its 21-year run on the SIA list while its rank, headcount, and postings all slide with no public sign of AI built into its own sourcing work.

Roth Staffing places workers in jobs and handles hiring paperwork for companies, mostly small and mid-size businesses. Bigger competitors like Robert Half and Adecco can copy what Roth does at much larger scale, and AI tools like LinkedIn's new recruiter agent can now do the matching and screening work that staffing agencies charge fees for, which is squeezing profits and is why Roth has been shrinking in rankings and headcount. Watch whether Roth builds and deploys its own AI sourcing tool in the next couple of years, or whether it keeps slipping in the rankings as rivals and automation eat away at the work it charges for.

Why
01
AI pressure: LinkedIn AI recruiter agent and agentic sourcing platforms. AI agents now source and screen SMB admin/clerical candidates directly, cutting into the exact matching work Roth charges markups for. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Robert Half, Adecco, Randstad, ManpowerGroup. Same clients, same candidates, much bigger budgets, and reportedly faster AI sourcing rollouts while Roth's rank keeps slipping. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Long-standing local client and candidate relationships plus compliance handling, but nothing stops rivals from copying this at scale.
What would change this call
SIA's mid-2027 Largest Staffing Firms ranking shows Roth below #85 overall. Confirms continued market share erosion versus larger competitors.
Roth announces a proprietary AI sourcing or matching platform for its own operations. Would show Roth closing the AI capability gap instead of just advising clients on it.
Roth's corporate headcount in Revelio Labs data stabilizes or grows in 2027 filings. Would indicate the contraction trend has reversed rather than deepened.
