The call

SafetyCulture sits on real compliance lock-in but is spending heavily and cycling leadership while betting an AI acquisition spree can re-seal its edges before the next fundraise.

SafetyCulture sells software that stores inspection records, safety checklists, and compliance trails for big companies, mostly in industrial and construction work. For 20 years, customers have piled their data into the system, making it hard to leave, but AI tools can now generate checklists and reports on their own, and some customers are building their own simple alternatives instead of paying SafetyCulture. The company is burning cash (49 million dollar loss last year), shrinking its staff, and buying smaller AI companies to try to lock customers in deeper, but whether these moves will actually work before AI makes the whole product cheaper and more generic remains unclear.

Why
01
AI pressure: AI-native checklist and report generators, plus customer in-house 'vibe-coded' tools. AI can now draft checklists and reports directly, threatening to commoditize the template layer SafetyCulture built its business on. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: SAP and Oracle EHS modules. Both sell compliance modules inside ERP suites customers already run, competing for the same budget without yet pulling share. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Two decades of customer inspection data, asset records, and audit trails locked into daily regulatory workflows.
What would change this call
SafetyCulture announces a new priced funding round or valuation mark. Shows whether investors see the AI pivot as re-sealing the moat or eroding it.
Company names a permanent CEO to replace interim founder-CEO Luke Anear. Signals internal stability versus continued leadership turnover.
Twine or similar acquired AI product ships with disclosed customer adoption numbers. Tests whether the agentic-AI pivot deepens lock-in or merely defends against commoditized templates.

Questions people ask
Is SafetyCulture profitable in 2026?
No. SafetyCulture posted a net loss of approximately $49M for FY2025, reported by AFR on 2025-11-03, driven by higher marketing and executive spend even as CEO Kelly Vohs promoted AI as a growth lever.
Has SafetyCulture had layoffs?
Headcount fell about 9.7% year over year to roughly 902 employees worldwide as of March 2026, down from a 2025 peak near 994, per Revelio Labs data published 2026-06-29.
Could AI replace SafetyCulture's product?
AI can already generate checklists, inspection templates, and training content, tasks SafetyCulture itself automates. But its 20+ year data lock-in, asset registers, and regulatory audit trails across 85,000+ businesses (as of Sept 2024) are harder for generic AI tools to replicate quickly.
Who is SafetyCulture's biggest competitor?
No confirmed market-share leader has displaced SafetyCulture. Peers include Intelex, Cority, and VelocityEHS, while SAP and Oracle offer EHS modules within broader ERP suites without having taken share in 20+ years of competing.
Who owns SafetyCulture?
SafetyCulture is privately held, backed by AirTree Ventures, Insight Partners, Tiger Global, Blackbird Ventures, Index Ventures, and TDM Growth Partners, last valued at AU$2.5B (US$1.67B) in a Sept 2024 AU$165M round led by AirTree.
What is SafetyCulture doing about AI competition?
In April 2026 it acquired agentic-AI startup Twine, installing founder Brian Swift as VP of AI, and per AFR (2026-04-06) had a term sheet out for a second AI acquisition and was in final talks on a third to build defensive AI capability.
