The call

Sense has real customers and deep integrations, but its core chatbot idea is becoming a free feature inside Workday, SAP, and iCIMS.

Sense makes AI chatbots that screen job applicants, answer questions, and schedule interviews for hiring teams. It has a real customer base of over 1,000 companies and deep connections to their hiring software systems, which makes switching painful and expensive. But the bigger problem is that Workday, iCIMS, SAP, and other giant hiring software companies have built their own AI chatbots directly into their products over the last year, so customers no longer need to buy Sense separately. General AI tools like ChatGPT are also making basic chatbot work cheaper and easier to copy. The one thing that could save Sense is if its new voice AI and agent builder tool, coming in April 2026, actually convinces customers to stay and spend more money, instead of just switching to the all-in-one hiring software bundles that now include AI built in.

Why
01
AI pressure: OpenAI ChatGPT Work agents and general-purpose agentic AI. Chatbot screening and FAQ answering, Sense's original pitch, is turning into a feature any general AI agent can do cheaply. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Workday+Paradox, SAP+SmartRecruiters, iCIMS+Apli, Bullhorn. Every major ATS now ships its own conversational AI bundled in, cutting the reason to buy Sense as a separate layer. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Deep ATS integrations and 350M+ candidate profiles across 1,000+ customers make ripping Sense out costly, for now.
What would change this call
Sense announces a new funding round or Series E by end of 2026. Would show investors still believe in growth despite 4.5 years without new capital.
Sense is acquired, and at what price relative to its 2021 $500M valuation. A sale at or below $500M would confirm stalled growth and equity risk.
Sense's April 2026 Voice AI/Agent Builder renewal and expansion results versus Workday+Paradox, iCIMS, SAP+SmartRecruiters customer wins. Would show whether Sense's installed base holds or erodes to bundled incumbents.

Questions people ask
Is Sense (SenseHQ) profitable in 2026?
No profitability figures are disclosed. Third-party revenue estimates conflict sharply: Latka estimated $75M for 2024, while UnifyGTM estimated only $35.3M for 2025 with projected growth to $58-62M in 2026. Sense has not raised capital since its $50M Series D in December 2021, and no profitability data has been published.
Has Sense had layoffs?
No confirmed layoff events specific to Sense appear in 2025-2026 tech layoff trackers as of mid-2026. However, Latka data shows headcount declined from a peak of roughly 490 employees in 2023 to about 435 in 2024, suggesting attrition or quiet downsizing rather than announced layoffs.
Could AI replace Sense's product?
Sense's core value, chatbot screening, FAQ answering, and scheduling, is commoditizing as ATS incumbents like Workday (via its October 2025 Paradox acquisition), SAP (SmartRecruiters, September 2025), and iCIMS (Apli, September 2025, plus Frontline AI in Spring 2026) ship native conversational AI, per trade coverage through June 2026.
Who is Sense's biggest competitor?
Sense faces bundled incumbents Workday (via Paradox/Olivia, acquired October 2025), SAP (via SmartRecruiters, acquired September 2025, a 2025 Gartner Magic Quadrant Leader), and iCIMS (via Apli, acquired September 2025, serving about 4,000 companies including roughly 40% of the Fortune 100), all shipping rival AI features natively as of 2026.
Who owns Sense (SenseHQ)?
Sense Talent Labs, Inc. is privately held and venture-backed, having raised roughly $89.5-90 million cumulatively across four rounds, with its most recent being a $50 million Series D in December 2021 led by SoftBank Vision Fund 2, alongside Avataar, GV, Accel, Khosla Ventures, and Signia Ventures.
Is Sense likely to be acquired?
Given that direct rivals Paradox, SmartRecruiters, and Apli were all acquired by larger ATS platforms (Workday, SAP, iCIMS) between September and October 2025, and Sense has raised no capital since 2021, acquisition is considered the likeliest outcome, though possibly at or below its 2021 $500M valuation.
