The call

Signzy holds real regulatory ground in Indian banking KYC, but a 2024 data breach and stalled funding land right as AI tools start doing the identity checks it sells.

Signzy helps banks and payment companies verify customer identities in India using document checks, face recognition, and fraud screening. The company had real advantages from Indian regulators approving its methods and integrating with 240+ banks, which made it hard for foreign companies to compete. But a data breach in December 2024 damaged customer trust right when artificial intelligence is making these verification tools cheaper and easier to build, and local competitor HyperVerge is following the same regulatory path. The next year will show whether India's biggest banks stay loyal to Signzy, whether it can raise new funding, and whether HyperVerge or other rivals can grab its market share.

Why
01
AI pressure: Multimodal AI models (GPT-4V class) commoditizing OCR, liveness, and sanctions screening. Generic multimodal models now do document reading and face matching, shrinking the verification layer Signzy built its business on. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Entrust (post-Onfido acquisition). Entrust now owns Onfido's identity stack and can bundle it globally, competing directly for the same bank and fintech KYC contracts. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. RBI Video KYC sandbox status, IFSCA clearance, and 240+ live bank integrations that foreign rivals cannot quickly replicate in India.
What would change this call
Whether any of India's largest banks publicly drop or replace Signzy within 12 months of the Dec 2024 breach. Would show the breach caused real client attrition, not just reputational noise.
Whether Signzy closes a new equity round by mid-2027 and at what valuation versus the 2022 Series B. A flat or down round would signal investors see weakened growth or trust.
Whether CERT-In or RBI issues any regulatory action or sandbox restriction tied to the breach. Would show regulators, not just customers, are penalizing Signzy's security lapse.

Questions people ask
Is Signzy profitable in 2026?
No profitability figures are publicly disclosed. Signzy's FY25 revenue was approximately $18M (about ₹151 crore), up 36.1% from ₹111 crore in FY24 per Inc42 (May 2026), but net income or profitability status has not been reported.
Did Signzy have a data breach?
Yes. In December 2024 Signzy disclosed a security incident involving information-stealer malware that exposed customer PII including IDs, addresses, contact numbers, and video recordings, prompting clients like ICICI Bank and PayU to tighten vendor risk checks.
Who owns Signzy, is it publicly traded?
Signzy is privately held and venture-backed, not publicly traded. Its Series B of ₹210 crore (~$26M) closed in September 2022 led by Gaja Capital with Vertex Ventures and Arkam Ventures, valuing it around $113M-$150M; Mastercard is also an investor.
Could AI replace Signzy's core product?
Signzy's core functions, document OCR, liveness/biometric checks, and rules-based sanctions screening, are exactly the pattern-matching tasks multimodal AI models increasingly commoditize, leaving its RBI/IFSCA regulatory sandbox authorizations as its main defensible layer.
Who is Signzy's biggest competitor?
Signzy competes with Jumio, Sumsub, Veriff, Persona, Trulioo, and India-anchored peers HyperVerge and Shufti Pro. Onfido, a former rival, was acquired by Entrust in April 2024, signaling sector consolidation Signzy has not participated in via new funding.
Has Signzy raised new funding recently?
No new equity round has been publicly disclosed since Signzy's September 2022 Series B of ₹210 crore (~$26M). A secondary transaction occurred in February 2023, but as of July 2026 the company has gone nearly four years without fresh primary capital.
