The call

A small SiriusXM unit with commodity hosting features, facing free AI transcription tools and a bigger free rival in Spotify.

Simplecast helps podcasters publish, host, and track their shows, but it offers features like transcription and analytics that AI tools and free services now do just as well. Spotify's podcast platform and cheap AI transcription tools are pulling away customers, and because the parent company SiriusXM is cutting costs, Simplecast gets less support and investment. The company recently added video podcast tools in early 2026, so if it can keep professional podcasters from switching to Spotify or other video-first platforms over the next few years, it might stay independent, but if those customers leave anyway, SiriusXM will likely shut it down or fold it into its media division.

Why
01
AI pressure: Castmagic, Mistral Voxtral, AWS Bedrock transcription tools. Castmagic pulls transcripts straight from Simplecast URLs, and Voxtral/Bedrock now do the job Simplecast charges for. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: Spotify (Megaphone and Spotify for Creators). Spotify offers free hosting plus a bigger listener base, undercutting Simplecast's paid tiers directly. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. SiriusXM's AdsWizz ad network and existing enterprise contracts keep some shows hosted here for now.
What would change this call
SiriusXM's quarterly earnings call mentions Simplecast headcount, spend, or podcast segment framing. Shows whether parent is investing in or winding down the subsidiary.
Simplecast ships an exclusive AdsWizz monetization integration or first-party AI content layer by end of 2026. Would indicate a real product differentiator versus commodity hosting rivals.
Video-podcast pivot retains Enterprise/Professional accounts through 2026 versus Riverside or Captivate. Tests whether Simplecast can hold customers against video-native competitors.

Questions people ask
Is Simplecast still an independent company?
No. Simplecast has been a wholly owned subsidiary of SiriusXM Holdings since June 17, 2020, when SiriusXM acquired it to pair with its AdsWizz adtech unit for undisclosed terms.
How many employees does Simplecast have?
Third-party company data lists Simplecast at approximately 11 to 16 employees as of 2024 to 2025, a small team consistent with a subsidiary product line inside SiriusXM rather than a standalone company.
Is Simplecast profitable?
Simplecast's standalone financials are not disclosed since it is folded into SiriusXM Media. SiriusXM overall reported $1.26 billion in free cash flow with podcast ad revenue up 41% for full-year 2025, per a February 11, 2026 report.
Could AI replace Simplecast's transcription features?
Simplecast's own support docs as of October 9, 2024 still recommend outsourcing transcription to Rev.com, while Castmagic markets a tool that pastes any public Simplecast episode URL to generate transcripts, bypassing Simplecast's own tooling entirely.
Who is Simplecast's biggest competitor?
Spotify is the main incumbent threat, owning both Megaphone for enterprise hosting and monetization and Spotify for Creators as a free hosting tool, covering both ends of Simplecast's market as of 2026.
Who owns Simplecast?
SiriusXM Holdings owns Simplecast outright since a June 17, 2020 acquisition. SiriusXM itself spun off from Liberty Media in late 2024, with Berkshire Hathaway holding roughly 35% as of Q4 2024.
