The call

Softcamp just returned to profit on certification-protected government sales, while its AI security pitch with AimIntelligence still awaits named customer wins.

Softcamp sells data protection and document security software, mainly to Korean government and banks. The company is hard to replace in Korea because Korean law requires certain local security certifications that lock out Microsoft and other foreign competitors, but this same rule protects all Korean security companies equally, not just Softcamp. The real question is whether the company can grow beyond Korea or prove its new artificial intelligence features actually work for paying customers, because if it cannot, profits may fade once the current wave of government buying slows down.

Why
01
AI pressure: Built-in AI guardrails inside Microsoft 365 Copilot and enterprise ChatGPT deployments. If Copilot and enterprise AI tools ship their own data-loss controls, buyers may skip separate CDR/DRM layers like Softcamp's. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Microsoft (Purview/Azure Information Protection). Purview already runs globally; it lacks KCMVP/N2SF certification today, so it cannot yet sell into Korean government accounts Softcamp serves. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. KCMVP and Common Criteria certification plus N2SF procurement rules that bar uncertified foreign products from Korean government contracts.
What would change this call
Fasoo or MarkAny announces a named N2SF-compliant AI trace-and-control contract win before Softcamp does. Would show a domestic peer capturing the AI-security demand Softcamp is repositioning for.
Softcamp's FY2026 interim results show revenue growth flat or reversed versus the 53.4% FY2025 gain. Would suggest the 2025 turnaround was one-off timing rather than a sustained trend.
Microsoft Purview obtains KCMVP or N2SF certification for Korean regulated buyers. Would erode the regulatory moat that currently keeps Microsoft out of Softcamp's core market.
Key numbers
  • FY2025 revenue KRW 25.9B, up 53.4% from KRW 16.9B (2026.02.23)
  • Operating profit KRW 2.97B vs KRW -1.83B loss in 2024 (2026.02.23)
  • CEO Bae Hwan-kuk holds about 21.5% of shares (2026.04.07)
Named risks
  • FY2025 profitability and 53.4% growth are only one year old and unproven as sustained trend. Severity: high
  • AI-native CDR and malware prediction tools (e.g., Glasswall) could commoditize core document security product. Severity: medium
  • AI guardrail partnership with AimIntelligence is a rented capability, not owned technology. Severity: medium
  • Regulatory moat (KCMVP/N2SF) is shared with Fasoo and MarkAny, not exclusive to Softcamp. Severity: medium
  • Attackers increasingly use frontier AI models (e.g., Claude Opus) to automate EDR evasion, per June 2026 Sophos report. Severity: medium

Questions people ask
Is Softcamp profitable in 2026?
Softcamp swung from an operating loss of KRW 1.83 billion in FY2024 to an operating profit of KRW 2.97 billion in FY2025, with net income around KRW 3.6 billion, per a disclosure reported February 23, 2026. This marks its first profitable year after a loss, though sustainability into FY2026 is unconfirmed.
Could AI replace Softcamp's security products?
Not easily for certified government work: Softcamp's KCMVP and Common Criteria certified crypto modules and Korea's N²SF procurement rules create a compliance moat AI-native entrants cannot bypass. But AI-driven CDR tools like Glasswall Foresight and Microsoft Purview's native AI features threaten Softcamp's commoditizable document-security and malware-detection layers over time.
Who owns Softcamp?
Softcamp is publicly listed on Korea's KOSDAQ exchange (ticker 258790) since April 27, 2017. Founder and CEO Bae Hwan-kuk is the de facto controlling shareholder, holding about 21.5% of shares as of an April 7, 2026 disclosure after several open-market purchases raising his stake from 21.24%.
Is Softcamp's biggest competitor Microsoft or a Korean rival?
Both matter differently: Microsoft's Purview and Azure Information Protection are the global platform incumbent Korean vendors position against, but Korean peers Fasoo and MarkAny share the same domestic certification moat and compete directly for the same N²SF-compliant government and enterprise contracts as of 2025-2026.
Has Softcamp built real AI products or is it just marketing AI?
As of January 27, 2026, Softcamp partnered with AimIntelligence to embed AI guardrail technology into its ShieldGate remote browser isolation product. Its July 2, 2026 Solution Day reframed strategy from blocking AI to tracing and controlling it, but no disclosed revenue is yet tied specifically to these AI features.
What is Softcamp's revenue and is it growing?
Softcamp's consolidated FY2025 revenue was KRW 25.9 billion, up 53.4% from KRW 16.9 billion in FY2024, according to a regulatory disclosure reported February 23, 2026. This was the same year the company returned to operating profit after a 2024 loss.
