The call

Solace's entire business sits on one regulatory framework under active federal review, while AI-augmented rivals build toward the same Medicare population it serves with human advocates alone.

Solace pays licensed nurses and social workers to help sick people understand their insurance benefits and find affordable care. Right now, Medicare and major insurers like Aetna and Cigna pay Solace for this service because of special billing codes created in 2024, and those codes are supposed to stop conflicts of interest where insurance companies could favor their own profits over patient care. The problem is that the government is reviewing whether those billing codes should even exist, a decision due in mid-2026; if the rules change, Solace loses its main way to get paid. Meanwhile, competitors like Accolade and Transcarent are building software that uses artificial intelligence to do some of this work automatically, and Solace's advocates are still entirely human. The one thing that could save Solace is if it adds AI tools to its nurses and social workers before the insurance companies do it themselves or buy a competitor.

Why
01
AI pressure: Transcarent WayFinding (Accolade+Transcarent merger) and Tempus Olivia AI. AI-native navigators are merging with clinical advocacy firms; if they add credentialed clinicians, Solace's human-only model gets undercut on cost. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: UnitedHealth/Optum, Aetna, Cigna, Humana, BCBS. These payers fund Solace today but have a conflict of interest running their own advocates; any move to build or acquire one would take years. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Direct Medicare billing under 2024 PIN codes requires licensed clinicians, and Solace already holds contracts with five major payers.
What would change this call
CMS issues proposed rule on Principal Illness Navigation codes or anti-kickback safe harbors. Could restrict or reshape the reimbursement basis Solace's revenue depends on.
Accolade+Transcarent launches a Medicare-focused AI care-navigation product. Would show a well-funded rival converting AI tooling into direct Medicare-DTC competition.
Solace ships an AI-augmented advocate tool by Q4 2026. Would show Solace closing the AI gap instead of staying human-only.

Questions people ask
Is Solace profitable in 2026?
Solace has not disclosed profitability or formal financials. It raised a $130M Series C in February 2026 at a $1B+ valuation, and its revenue comes from a share of Medicare reimbursements under 2024 Principal Illness Navigation billing codes, not disclosed net income.
Could AI replace Solace's healthcare advocates?
Not the billing core: Medicare's 2024 PIN codes require licensed clinicians. But AI-native rivals Transcarent (WayFinding) and Tempus (Olivia AI) already ship generative-AI care navigation tools as of May 2026, while Solace remains human-only with no announced AI product.
Who owns Solace Health?
Solace is privately held and venture-backed, founded in 2022 by Jeremy Gurewitz and Sara Sargent. Its February 2026 Series C of $130M was led by IVP with Menlo Ventures, SignalFire, Torch Capital, Inspired Capital and RiverPark Ventures, pushing valuation over $1 billion.
Is Solace laying off employees in 2026?
No layoffs have been reported. Crustdata estimated Solace's headcount at roughly 1,155 employees as of July 2026, up about 199% year over year from around 66 in July 2024, indicating rapid hiring rather than cuts.
Who is Solace Health's biggest competitor?
Included Health, reported to cover 100M+ lives via employer and payer contracts, is described as the navigation market benchmark. The Accolade and Transcarent merger, reported May 29, 2026, combines AI benefits navigation with clinical advocacy, directly contesting Solace's space.
What regulatory risk does Solace Health face?
HHS issued a Request for Information on the federal Anti-Kickback Statute on June 24, 2026, which could affect the Principal Illness Navigation billing codes underlying Solace's entire Medicare-based revenue model, a risk still unresolved as of mid-2026.
