The call

Splashtop makes real money in a niche it does not lead globally, while TeamViewer's scale and AI head start narrow its room to grow beyond Japan.

Splashtop lets people control computers from far away, and it makes real money with millions of users. The problem is that TeamViewer already owns more than half the market and is adding AI features faster. Splashtop's main advantage is a strong position in Japan and some loyalty from compliance customers, but both could disappear if TeamViewer copies its lower prices or if AI systems start fixing computer problems without human help. What matters next is whether Splashtop's new unified product (coming mid-2026) can keep customers and win new ones before AI changes what remote-access software even needs to do.

Why
01
AI pressure: Agentic IT automation and autonomous endpoint remediation tools. AI agents that fix devices without a human logging in shrink the need for remote-control sessions Splashtop sells. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: TeamViewer. TeamViewer holds roughly 54.5% of the market to Splashtop's 2.5% and already ships AI features Splashtop has not matched. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Profitable since 2015, the top remote-access vendor in Japan, and Foxpass adds compliance features that make switching costly.
What would change this call
Splashtop's Unified Platform (GA May 2026) adoption and renewal figures reported in coming quarters. Would show whether the new platform is retaining customers against AI-equipped rivals.
Any new priced funding round or acquisition announcement for Splashtop. Would confirm whether the 2021 $1B valuation still holds or is stale.
TeamViewer or other RMM vendors announcing autonomous AI remediation features widely adopted by enterprises. Would show the core remote-session use case eroding faster than Splashtop can respond.

Questions people ask
Is Splashtop profitable in 2026?
Splashtop has stated it has been profitable since 2015, claiming roughly 60% profit margins as of its January 26, 2021 funding announcement. This is a vendor claim, not an audited figure, since Splashtop is a private company with no public financial filings.
Who owns Splashtop?
Splashtop is privately held and venture-backed, with no IPO or acquisition on record. It reached a $1 billion unicorn valuation on January 26, 2021 after a $65 million round (including a $15 million add-on closed March 10, 2021) led by Sapphire Ventures.
Who is Splashtop's biggest competitor?
TeamViewer is Splashtop's dominant incumbent rival in the remote access and support category, alongside AnyDesk, ConnectWise Control, GoTo, and Zoho Assist. TeamViewer also markets itself as ahead on AI features as of May 8, 2026 per third-party comparison sources.
Could AI replace Splashtop's core product?
AI-driven autonomous endpoint remediation and agentic patching threaten to reduce reliance on human-initiated remote sessions, Splashtop's core business. It responded by launching an AI-assisted Autonomous Endpoint Management feature within its Unified Platform on April 12, 2026.
Is Splashtop laying off employees?
No layoffs are publicly reported. Headcount has stayed roughly flat, growing modestly from about 300 employees in February 2023 to 347 by June 2026, even as the company claims strong revenue growth over the same period.
Has Splashtop raised new funding recently?
No new funding round has been publicly disclosed since the $15 million add-on closed March 10, 2021, which completed Splashtop's $65 million unicorn round. As of June 2026 this made the company's last raise roughly 66 months old.
