The call

Studiosity survived by selling human feedback to universities, but that exact service is now free everywhere, and its bet on a new validation product is unproven while Turnitin watches from a much bigger position.

Studiosity gives students and teachers written feedback on assignments through human reviewers, mostly sold to schools and universities. The problem: free AI tools like ChatGPT now do basic homework help instantly and for nothing, which already hurt competitors like Chegg (which laid off 636 people in 2025). Studiosity says it will shift from catching plagiarism to helping students learn better, but that new product has not shipped yet, and Turnitin, the bigger company that already dominates schools, could copy this same idea and crush Studiosity with its larger customer base. The one thing that matters: whether Studiosity's new product actually works and gets signed school contracts before Turnitin copies it.

Why
01
AI pressure: ChatGPT and other free generalist LLMs. Free chatbots now do the homework help and essay feedback Studiosity used to charge universities for, echoing the Chegg collapse. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Turnitin. Turnitin dominates the plagiarism and integrity market and can copy Studiosity's new 'support and validate' pitch with far more institutional reach. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Contracts with 200+ universities and a support model schools trust more than a detection tool, at least for now.
What would change this call
Turnitin announces a 'support and validate' or authorship-validation SKU by 2027. Shows the bigger incumbent can copy Studiosity's new positioning with no real barrier.
Norvalid-integrated product stays in Early Access past H2 2026 with no named US institutional contracts. Shows the pivot away from commoditized tutoring is stalling, not scaling.
Independent (non-vendor) audit of the 4.4x ROI or 21% GPA lift claims is published. Would confirm or contradict Studiosity's own cited efficacy studies.

Questions people ask
Is Studiosity profitable?
Yes. According to a June 2023 AFR report, Studiosity took 18 years to become profitable, achieving it after pivoting from schools and libraries to universities, when it served roughly 70 institutions; it now partners with over 200 universities globally.
Who owns Studiosity?
Studiosity is privately held and, per data aggregators, has never raised outside funding, suggesting founder ownership. Founder Jack Goodman serves as Non-Executive Chair while Michael Larsen is CEO and Managing Director as of 2026.
Could AI replace Studiosity?
Studiosity's core human-tutor writing feedback faces the same commoditization risk that hit Chegg, which cut 636+ jobs in 2025 as ChatGPT ate homework-help traffic. Studiosity is pivoting to AI-authorship validation via its November 2025 Norvalid acquisition to counter this.
Who is Studiosity's biggest competitor?
Turnitin is the dominant incumbent in plagiarism and AI-detection for higher ed. In February 2026 Turnitin shipped an update adding signal decomposition and rationale overlays, moving into the same explainability space Studiosity targets with its Validate product.
What is Studiosity's new Support and Validate product?
Support and Validate is Studiosity's assessment-security and AI-authorship-validation product, built around its November 2025 acquisition of Norvalid. An Early Access Program was planned for Q1 2026, positioned as an alternative to detection-based tools like Turnitin.
Has Studiosity expanded to the United States?
Yes. Studiosity officially entered the U.S. market in October 2025, registering Studiosity USA Inc. in Salt Lake City and launching a U.S. Academic Advisory Board with chancellors and VPs from UMass Global, University of Virginia, and University of Utah.
