The call

A small, mid-transition Polish language-services firm is rebranding into a crowded AI-data market while LLMs erode the translation business it built its name on.

Summa Linguae Technologies (rebranding to DATAmundi in May 2025) does translation, transcription, and now AI training data work for tech companies. The old translation business is under direct threat from AI language models like GPT-4 and Gemini, which can do much of this work automatically, and the new data annotation business puts the company in competition with much bigger, better-funded players like Scale AI and Appen who already dominate that market. The company is in the middle of major leadership changes and restructuring, making it hard to assess whether management can build something defensible or if the transition to AI work will succeed before the old business shrinks away.

Why
01
AI pressure: GPT-4 and Gemini-class large language models. The company's own CTO has written that LLMs already handle much of the translation, transcription, and proofreading work Summa Linguae sells. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: Scale AI, Appen, TELUS International AI Data Solutions, Sama. DATAmundi is entering AI-annotation and training-data work where far larger, better-funded players already operate at scale. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Long-standing multilingual enterprise client relationships and localization know-how, but nothing exclusive, patented, or contractually locked in.

Questions people ask
Is Summa Linguae Technologies profitable?
No audited figures have been confirmed since 2019-2020. The company itself claims over $30 million in annual revenue as of May 2025 on its DATAmundi leadership page, but no NewConnect filing verifying profit or margin has surfaced publicly since that rebrand.
Could AI replace Summa Linguae's translation business?
Yes, largely. The company's own CTO blog from April 2025 acknowledges agentic LLMs and multimodal models are reshaping localization workflows, directly threatening its legacy translation, transcription, and proofreading revenue lines.
Who owns Summa Linguae Technologies?
Luxembourg-based Value4Capital acquired a 51 percent majority stake in December 2019 via a roughly PLN 42 million capital increase, valuing the company above PLN 100 million. It trades on Warsaw's NewConnect exchange under ticker SUL.
Who runs Summa Linguae now that it's called DATAmundi?
Véronique Özkaya, formerly of Lionbridge, Moravia, and LanguageWire, joined as Co-CEO in June 2024 and took over full leadership around June 2025 when founder Krzysztof Zdanowski stepped back to a Founder title under the new DATAmundi brand.
What is DATAmundi and how does it relate to Summa Linguae?
DATAmundi is the market-facing rebrand, launched May 29, 2025, of Poland's Summa Linguae Technologies, which remains the registered legal entity. It repositions the company from a translation LSP toward AI training-data annotation services.
Who are Summa Linguae/DATAmundi's biggest competitors?
In AI-data annotation it faces Scale AI, Appen, TELUS International AI Data Solutions, and Sama, all larger and better capitalized. In legacy localization it competes against RWS Holdings, Lionbridge, TransPerfect, and Welocalize.
