The call

Suno grew fast on music built from other people's songs, and now faces a legal bill that could exceed what investors think it's worth.

Suno lets people create songs with AI and has grown to 2 million paying customers making $300 million a year. However, Google and Spotify just launched their own music AI tools with huge built-in audiences and cleaner permission deals with record labels, making it hard for Suno to stay unique. Suno is also being sued by Sony and Universal for potentially using their songs to train its AI without permission, which could cost it billions of dollars and destroy the company. The main thing to watch is whether Suno can settle with the record labels on fair terms (the way Warner Music already did with other AI companies) or whether a court judgment forces it to shut down or pay enormous damages.

Why
01
AI pressure: Google Lyria 3/3 Pro and ElevenLabs Eleven Music. Google shipped a licensed, watermarked rival inside YouTube and Gemini, while ElevenLabs closes the vocal quality gap Suno relied on. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Google and Spotify. Google bought Riffusion/Producer.ai and ships Lyria in YouTube; Spotify's UMG deal lets 600M+ users make licensed AI remixes in app. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. A Warner Music settlement plus 2M paying subscribers and workflow tools like Studio and Custom Models give it revenue and some legal cover.

Questions people ask
Is Suno profitable in 2026?
Suno has not disclosed profitability, but revenue grew fast: from about $45M ARR (May 2024) to $200M annual revenue (Nov 2025) to $300M ARR with 2M paid subscribers by Feb 25, 2026, per CEO Mikey Shulman, vendor claimed.
Could AI replace Suno's own technology?
Yes, potentially. Google's Lyria 3/3 Pro (shipped Feb 2026 with licensed data and SynthID watermarking), ElevenLabs' Eleven Music, and MiniMax's Music 2.5/2.6 are closing the vocal-quality gap, risking commoditization of Suno's core generative model layer.
Who owns Suno?
Suno is privately held and VC-backed. It raised a $400M+ Series D at a $5.4B post-money valuation on June 3, 2026, led by Bond Capital, with Warner Music Group also holding an equity/licensing stake from its November 2025 settlement.
Who is Suno's biggest competitor?
Google and Spotify are the biggest emerging threats: Google shipped Lyria 3/3 Pro with licensed training data in Feb 2026, and Spotify launched a UMG-backed in-app AI-remix feature around May 2026 for its 600M+ subscribers, both with cleaner legal footing than Suno.
Is Suno being sued by record labels?
Yes. Sony Music and Universal Music Group are suing Suno in Boston federal court (RIAA v. Suno) and sought to expand the case to 61,026 recordings, exposing Suno to roughly $9B in statutory damages, as of July 14, 2026.
Has Suno settled with any major record labels?
Yes, Warner Music Group settled with Suno in a roughly $500M deal on November 25, 2025, allowing Suno to train on WMG's catalog under an opt-in framework; Sony and Universal remain in active litigation as of July 2026.
