The call

Superb AI has real government and industrial ties in Korea but a small, mostly investor-linked revenue base facing pressure from free AI labeling tools worldwide.

Superb AI helps companies label images and video for artificial intelligence training. Its original business of having people mark up data is becoming easier to replace, because big AI companies like OpenAI, Google, and Meta now offer software that can do much of this work automatically through Labelbox, CVAT, and Encord (popular platforms). The company has tried to pivot to building its own AI model called ZERO, which won a contest in 2026, but it barely makes money yet after eight years and raising $43 million. The one thing that could change this: if Superb AI can sell ZERO to customers outside Korea and grow real revenue, or if the automatic labeling tools stop improving as fast, it might survive. Right now it looks like the company's value comes mostly from being based in Korea and having government relationships, not from building something too hard for bigger rivals to copy.

Why
01
AI pressure: Frontier vision models like SAM 3 and Claude/Gemini/OpenAI auto-labeling built into Labelbox, CVAT, Encord. Rivals now let AI models label images automatically, cutting into the human annotation work Superb AI built its business on. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: NVIDIA Physical AI platform. Superb AI runs inside NVIDIA's ecosystem as a partner, not a competitor, leaving it exposed if NVIDIA or AMD change the terms. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Deep ties to Korean chaebols and the state (Samsung, Hyundai, Doosan, KT, POSCO) who are both customers and investors, plus 130M+ proprietary industrial frames.
What would change this call
Superb AI's 2026 IPO prices on time versus is delayed or downsized. Shows whether investors believe the ZERO pivot and revenue growth are real or fragile.
Share of Superb AI's revenue coming from non-investor customers over the next year. Tests whether demand exists beyond chaebol backers who are also shareholders.
Whether SAM 4 or a Meta/Google release matches ZERO's industrial few-shot accuracy. Would show the ZERO niche closing as general models catch up on industrial vision.
Key numbers
  • Est. 2025 revenue $5.9M, up from $3.6M in 2024 (2025-12-21)
  • $43M total raised across 8 years (2025-12-15)
  • 130M+ cumulative industrial data frames (2025)
Named risks
  • Core human-assisted annotation business being commoditized by SAM 3 and frontier-model integrations shipped by rivals. Severity: high
  • Revenue remains small (~$5.9M estimated 2025) after 8 years and ~$43M raised, suggesting soft commercial traction. Severity: high
  • Heavy overlap between strategic investors and named customers (Samsung, Hyundai, Doosan, KT, Kakao) raises independence questions. Severity: medium
  • Planned 2026 IPO could slip or price poorly given unaudited, small revenue base. Severity: medium
  • NVIDIA's Physical AI stack and hyperscaler-native labeling tools could squeeze Superb AI's platform position. Severity: medium

Questions people ask
Is Superb AI profitable in 2026?
No public profit data exists since Superb AI is private. Third-party tracker Latka estimated 2025 revenue at $5.9M, up from about $3.6M in 2024, as of December 21, 2025, an unaudited estimate after 8 years and roughly $43M raised.
Could AI replace Superb AI's core data-labeling business?
Much of it already is being automated: Labelbox shipped Model Foundry with Claude, Gemini and OpenAI integrations in February 2026, and rivals CVAT and Encord adopted Meta's SAM 3 for auto-labeling, directly commoditizing the manual annotation workflow Superb AI built in 2018.
Who owns Superb AI?
Superb AI is privately held and venture-backed. As of a December 15, 2025 pre-IPO round, cumulative funding reached about ₩63B (~$43M) from investors including Doosan, Hyundai Motor Group, Samsung Next, KT, Kakao, Hanwha and POSCO, many of whom are also customers.
Is Superb AI going public?
Yes, Superb AI has repeatedly stated a target 2026 IPO, most recently reaffirmed on December 15, 2025 alongside a roughly $10M pre-IPO funding round led by Hanwha Asset Management and POSCO Investment, per the company's own announcement.
Who is Superb AI's biggest competitor?
Labelbox and Scale AI compete globally in data annotation, while NVIDIA sets platform terms for Physical AI that Superb AI depends on as a partner. Domestically, AIMMO is a direct South Korean rival in autonomous driving and defense data labeling.
What is Superb AI's ZERO model?
ZERO is Superb AI's proprietary industrial vision foundation model, launched December 1, 2025, and it took first place in the CVPR 2026 Foundational Few-Shot Object Detection Challenge on June 18, 2026, the only top team using a commercially deployed model; it is listed on AWS Marketplace.
