The call

Tekever holds ground through certified hardware and government lock-in, but its next test is a contract vote, not a chatbot.

Tekever builds and flies military drones that have logged over 50,000 hours in Ukraine and turned a profit of roughly $68 million. The company is hard to replace in the short term because the UK and France require drones to be made at home for security reasons, and Tekever just won a £400 million sole-source contract from the UK military, which locks out rivals for now. However, the award was controversial (the UK rejected all eight competing bids as unsuitable), and a legal challenge could unwind that deal. Equally, if Tekever loses the upcoming Project NYX competition to a rival like Anduril in late 2026, it would signal that countries are willing to buy from foreign drone makers even when they said they would not, which would reshape the entire picture.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. No AI lab ships certified airframes or holds security clearances; Tekever builds its own autonomy software in-house. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: Anduril. Anduril is a finalist against Tekever for the UK's Project NYX loyal-wingman contract, outcome due autumn 2026. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Sole-source UK MoD contracts, onshore manufacturing rules, and 50,000+ hours of combat use in Ukraine.
What would change this call
Outcome of Project Corvus legal challenge over sole-source award to Tekever. If overturned, shows sovereignty-based procurement lock-in is weaker than assumed.
Project NYX contract decision, expected autumn 2026. A loss to Anduril would show the UK sovereignty preference is eroding.
Swindon manufacturing plant opening and output, targeted before summer 2026. Delays would signal execution strain from rapid headcount growth.

  • Project Corvus sole-source award followed rejection of all eight open bids, exposing it to legal challenge. Severity: high
  • Loss of Project NYX to Anduril in autumn 2026 could signal Europe's sovereignty procurement bar is eroding. Severity: medium
  • Headcount grew 40.2% in 2025 across six new sites amid reports of declining employee sentiment. Severity: medium
  • Execution risk at newly opened Swindon, Bristol and Cahors manufacturing sites could delay delivery. Severity: medium

Questions people ask
Is Tekever profitable in 2026?
Yes. CEO Ricardo Mendes said in April 2025 the company had been profitable 'for some time,' with annual revenue cited at roughly $68.2M as of May 2025 when it hit unicorn status, though exact profit figures were not disclosed.
Who owns Tekever?
Tekever is privately held, founded in 2001 in Lisbon. Its May 2025 unicorn round (valuing it above $1.33B) was led by Ventura Capital, with Baillie Gifford, the NATO Innovation Fund, Iberis Capital and Crescent Cove Advisors as backers.
Who is Tekever's biggest competitor?
Tekever competes most directly with Anduril, Helsing and Quantum Systems. As of May 2026 it was one of four finalists (with Anduril, BAE Systems, Thales) for the UK's Project NYX Apache 'loyal wingman' contract, decided autumn 2026.
Could AI replace Tekever's business?
No. Tekever sells certified airframes, security clearances and combat-proven autonomy hardware, things frontier AI labs cannot ship. Its own products already embed onboard AI for mission autonomy, as showcased in the AR6 heavy-lift drone launched July 21, 2026.
What is Tekever's Project Corvus contract?
Project Corvus is a UK Ministry of Defence sole-source award worth up to £400M ($533M) over 10 years, announced July 25, 2026, selecting Tekever's AR5 drone to replace the Watchkeeper program after all eight open-tender bids were rejected as 'unsuitable.'
Did Tekever win the Project NYX contract?
Not yet decided. Tekever was named one of four finalists (alongside Anduril, BAE Systems, Thales) for the UK's Project NYX Apache 'loyal wingman' program on May 15, 2026, with a selection expected in autumn 2026.
