The call

Unisound is growing fast in narrow, sticky verticals while burning cash and repeatedly diluting shareholders to fund a model race against much bigger rivals.

Unisound makes AI software that listens to patients and doctors, turning speech into text and data for hospitals and insurance companies in China. It has real customers and revenue growing fast, but the basic speech-to-text work is becoming cheaper and easier to buy from cloud services, while iFlytek, a much larger competitor backed by Huawei, is building similar AI models and already selling to the same hospitals and insurers. Unisound is trying to stay ahead by building its own advanced AI model, but that is very expensive and requires lots of money; the company has already raised money three times in five months at lower prices each time, which suggests it is burning through cash quickly and may run out soon.

Why
01
AI pressure: Generic cloud speech-to-text APIs from Alibaba Cloud, Baidu, Tencent. Basic speech recognition is turning into a cheap cloud API, squeezing the core business Unisound built its name on. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: iFlytek (Xinghuo X1, built with Huawei on Ascend chips). iFlytek already runs a competing frontier model in the same healthcare and insurance verticals Unisound is chasing, with Huawei's backing and far more scale. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Deep integration inside 100+ hospitals and insurance clients, where compliance and switching costs slow any rival takeover.
What would change this call
iFlytek or Huawei-Ascend models win two or more hospital/insurance contracts Unisound was pursuing. Shows the vertical moat is breakable by a better-funded rival.
A fourth discounted equity placing by Unisound within 12 months of the January 2026 raise. Confirms ongoing cash burn and balance-sheet fragility despite narrowing losses.
Next interim or annual results show large-model revenue growth falling below 2x YoY or losses widening again. Indicates the vertical AI business is losing momentum against competitors.
