The call

A small, project-based consulting shop with a pending IPO, sitting in a market where AI and a much bigger rival already do its core work.

Web3Labs Global helps clients with cryptocurrency and blockchain advice through reports, market studies, and marketing strategy. It is easy to replace because bigger firms like Animoca Brands do the same thing, and AI can now write the exact reports and analysis that make up most of Web3Labs' work, meaning there is nothing stopping a competitor or a computer from doing what they do. The one thing that could matter is if Web3Labs uses money from going public to build software that customers pay for regularly, or secure exclusive partnerships that lock in clients, instead of just hiring more consultants to do the same advice work over again.

Why
01
AI pressure: Generic generative AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, etc.) for feasibility reports and market analysis. The company's core output, written reports and strategy decks, is the exact task generative AI already does cheaply and fast. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: Animoca Brands. Animoca already dominates Hong Kong Web3 consulting and event circuits where Web3Labs competes for the same clients and stages. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Early relationships with eight public blockchains and Hong Kong officials, but these ties are relational, not exclusive, and easy to replicate.
What would change this call
Whether MDAT's IPO prices and at what final valuation versus the $4-5/share target. Weak pricing or withdrawal would show investor doubt about the business's durability.
Whether post-IPO capital funds a licensed HK regulatory role or software product versus more consulting/events. Consulting spend confirms no moat forming; licensed/software spend would show real barrier-building.
Whether Web3Labs discloses a large single-client loss or revenue drop in a coming quarterly filing. Would confirm project-based revenue concentration is causing customer churn.

  • Revenue concentrated in non-recurring, project-based consulting income. Severity: high
  • No structural moat: no license, proprietary data, or exclusive distribution in a crowded sector. Severity: high
  • Core consulting deliverables are AI-replaceable document and analysis work. Severity: medium
  • Unresolved founding-date discrepancy (2017 vs 2023) raises diligence questions. Severity: low

Questions people ask
Is Web3Labs Global profitable ahead of its IPO?
Yes on paper: pre-IPO filings show TTM net income of about $765,000 and free cash flow of about $195,000 as of July 21, 2026, though revenue of roughly $2.0-2.2 million for 2025 is described as project-based and non-recurring.
Has Web3Labs Global's IPO priced yet?
No. As of July 21, 2026, the Nasdaq listing under ticker MDAT had not priced and no listing date was set, despite the F-1 being filed publicly on May 13, 2026 targeting $28 million in gross proceeds.
Who is Web3Labs Global's biggest competitor?
Animoca Brands, a Hong Kong Web3 giant founded in 2014 with 540+ portfolio companies and its own accelerator programs, dwarfs Web3Labs Global's 17-person consulting operation in the same crowded virtual-asset services sector.
Could AI replace what Web3Labs Global does?
Its core deliverables, feasibility reports, market analysis, and marketing strategy documents, are document and analysis work that generative AI already performs cheaply; Seeking Alpha said on May 29, 2026 the company has no sustainable competitive moat.
Is it risky to join Web3Labs Global as an employee?
It is a 17-person, roughly $2 million revenue firm with a pending, unpriced IPO as of July 21, 2026, no prior VC funding found, and Seeking Alpha flags thin capitalization and customer concentration risk in its May 29, 2026 IPO Edge review.
What valuation is Web3Labs Global seeking in its IPO?
The company proposed selling 6.25 million Class A shares at $4-5 each, targeting about $28 million in gross proceeds and an implied market cap near $140-141 million at the midpoint, as disclosed May 12, 2026.
