The call

Xreal leads a small category on revenue share while burning cash fast, just as Meta, Samsung, Google, and Xiaomi move into the same space with deeper pockets.

Xreal makes special glasses that show digital images in front of your eyes, and it sells more of them than anyone else right now. The problem is that bigger companies like Meta, Apple, Samsung, and Xiaomi are all building their own versions and have way more money and customers to sell to, so there is nothing stopping them from taking over this market. Xreal is also burning through cash, makes very little profit on each pair sold, and depends on a deal with Google that Google is also giving to Samsung, which means Xreal's advantage could disappear fast. The one thing that could save the company is if its new glasses called AURA sell really well when they launch and keep people coming back to buy more, or if it can raise enough money through a Hong Kong stock offering before cash runs out.

Why
01
AI pressure: Meta Ray-Ban Display, Alibaba Quark, Xiaomi AI glasses. AI-assistant glasses are already on shelves, pulling buyer attention away from Xreal's screen-mirroring pitch. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Samsung and Google Android XR glasses. Samsung is building Android XR glasses with Google, the same partner Xreal depends on, for a fall 2026 launch. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Top revenue share in AR glasses, working optics and display tech, and roughly a million units already shipped worldwide.

Questions people ask
Is Xreal profitable in 2026?
No. Xreal posted a net loss of roughly RMB 456 million on revenue of about RMB 516 million in fiscal 2025, with only around RMB 63.63 million in cash on hand per its Hong Kong IPO prospectus data reported April 2, 2026.
Who is Xreal's biggest competitor?
Samsung and Google are jointly developing Android XR smart glasses launching fall 2026, the same window as Xreal's own AURA device. Meta's Ray-Ban Display glasses are already shipping, and Chinese rivals RayNeo and Rokid contest the same optics category.
Could AI replace Xreal's product?
Not the optics hardware, but the AI-assistant glasses paradigm from Meta Ray-Ban and Alibaba Quark threatens Xreal's display-first model. Xreal's software layer NebulaOS is unmonetized and services made up only 7.8% of 2025 revenue.
Is Xreal going public?
Xreal filed a Hong Kong IPO application on April 1, 2026 with CICC and Citi as sponsors. China's CSRC issued supplementary filing requests on July 24, 2026 regarding share-based compensation, an open item as of that date; CEO Chi Xu said in May 2026 he expects listing before year-end.
Who owns Xreal?
Xreal is privately held, founded in 2017 by Dr. Chi Xu, a former Magic Leap and Apple engineer. Investors include Alibaba, Hillhouse Capital, Sequoia, Shunwei Capital and Gentle Monster, with a $100 million round closing January 8, 2026 at a $1 billion valuation.
What is Xreal's market share in AR glasses?
Per iResearch data cited in its IPO prospectus, Xreal ranked #1 globally in AR-glasses revenue every year from 2022 through 2025, holding 27.0% global AR revenue share and 24.8% unit share in 2025, as of December 31, 2025.
