Yapily
UK fintech that pipes bank-account data and payments into apps via open banking APIs.
Yapily has the licenses and the customer logos, but Visa and Mastercard now own its biggest rivals, and five years without a new funding round says growth has stalled.
Yapily is a software company that lets apps and financial services get access to customer bank data safely and legally. It has official permission from regulators in the UK and Lithuania to do this work, and big customers like Google Cloud and American Express use it. However, companies like Tink (owned by Visa) and Finicity (owned by Mastercard) do almost the same thing and have way more connections to banks and bigger teams behind them. Yapily has not raised new money in five years, and nobody knows if its revenue is growing or staying flat. The one thing that could change this is if a new investor puts money in, or if new European banking rules in 2026 and 2027 shift how companies like Yapily compete with each other.
PSD3/PSR rules are finalized in the EU (expected 2026, enforced 2027-2028). Could either strengthen Yapily's regulatory moat or commoditize open banking connectivity.
Google Cloud expands Yapily's bank-verification service beyond its current 11 EU countries. Would show the distribution partnership is turning into material revenue growth.
- No priced funding round since July 2021
- Revenue estimates range $3.4M to $35M
- Website traffic ~865K monthly visitors
- No priced equity round disclosed since July 2021, over five years of funding silence.
- Third-party revenue estimates for Yapily span roughly tenfold ($3.4M to $35M), signaling unclear financial health.
- Larger, better-capitalized rivals (Visa-owned Tink, Mastercard-owned Finicity, Plaid) have far greater bank coverage.
- PSD3/PSR finalization expected 2026 with enforcement 2027-2028 could commoditize open banking rails.
- Distribution partners like Google Cloud could eventually internalize bank verification capability.
| Rival | Direction | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Tink (Visa) | losing to | Visa bought Tink for 1.8bn euros in 2022, giving it 3,400+ bank connections vs Yapily's smaller footprint |
| Finicity (Mastercard) | losing to | Mastercard owns Finicity outright, matching Visa's acquisition strategy against independent open banking players |
| Plaid | losing to | Plaid covers 12,000+ institutions and processed 10bn+ transactions in 2025, far exceeding Yapily's scale |
| TrueLayer | contesting | TrueLayer raised ~$322M, reached ~20M users, and got eBay strategic investment in Feb 2026 |
| Google Cloud (platform partner) | gaining on | Yapily powers Google Cloud's European bank verification, expanded to 11 countries by July 2026 |
- Is Yapily profitable in 2026?
- Yapily has not disclosed profitability. Its last priced funding round was a $51M Series B in July 2021 led by Sapphire Ventures, and as of July 2026 it has gone over five years without a new disclosed funding round, leaving its financial health unresolved.
- Could AI replace Yapily?
- Unlikely soon. Yapily's core moat is regulated AISP/PISP status via Yapily Connect Ltd (FCA FRN 827001) and Yapily Connect UAB (Bank of Lithuania), which a raw AI model cannot assume. AI firms like Cortena instead partner atop Yapily's rails, per a March 2026 partnership.
- Who is Yapily's biggest competitor?
- Visa-owned Tink, acquired for 1.8 billion euros in 2022 with over 3,400 bank connections, and Mastercard-owned Finicity are larger-scale rivals. Plaid, which processed over 10 billion transactions across 12,000-plus institutions in 2025, also outpaces Yapily's coverage.
- Who owns Yapily?
- Yapily is privately held and venture-backed, founded in 2017 by CEO Stefano Vaccino. Investors include Sapphire Ventures, Lakestar, HV Holtzbrinck Ventures and LocalGlobe. There has been no acquisition or IPO as of July 2026.
- What does Yapily do?
- Yapily is a UK-based open banking API infrastructure provider that lets companies retrieve bank account data and initiate account-to-account payments through a single API. It holds FCA authorisation (FRN 827001) and Bank of Lithuania regulatory status.
- Did Yapily raise funding recently?
- No. Yapily's last disclosed round was a $51M Series B in July 2021 led by Sapphire Ventures. As of July 2026 it has gone five years without a new priced round, despite active 2026 partnership announcements with Google Cloud and Cortena.
