The call

Yixia has shown no confirmed funding, product launch, or third-party coverage since 2016, while Douyin and Kuaishou absorbed its market and AI video tools moved past it entirely.

Yixia made short videos for phones and relied on being featured inside Weibo, a bigger social network, to get users. When TikTok's Chinese version (Douyin) and Kuaishou launched better short-video apps in 2017 and 2018, plus Yixia got kicked out of app stores, the company stopped growing and has been quiet ever since. Today's short-video platforms use AI to make and edit videos automatically, which Yixia shows no sign of building, and no one can find recent news about whether the company is even still working, let alone what products it is making.

Why
01
AI pressure: Kuaishou's Kling and ByteDance's Jimeng generative AI video tools. Live AI video generation from Yixia's own former distribution partners has no answer inside Yixia's dormant product line. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: ByteDance (Douyin) and Kuaishou Technology. Douyin and Kuaishou took the entire short-video audience from Miaopai during 2017-2018, coinciding with its 2018 app store removal. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Whatever residual B2B licensing income Vitamio/VPlayer video infrastructure still generates, if any, since no consumer product competes today.
What would change this call
Any 2025-2026 funding round, acquisition, or credible valuation report for Yixia. Would show Yixia is still an active, capitalized business rather than dormant.
Independently reported headcount, revenue, or product launch for Yixia/Miaopai/Vitamio. Would confirm ongoing operations rather than a going-dark shell company.
Renewed Chinese regulatory action against short-video apps naming Yixia properties. Would show Yixia still operates a live app subject to enforcement.

Questions people ask
Is Yixia still in business in 2026?
Yixia's flagship miaopai.com domain remained technically reachable as of July 18 2026, but no product launch, funding round, or third-party coverage has been confirmed since Miaopai was pulled from Chinese app stores in July 2018, raising going-dark risk.
Could AI replace Yixia's video products?
Yixia's core offerings, short-video editing and algorithmic feed curation, are exactly what generative AI and larger recommendation engines like Douyin's now automate. No AI feature launch by Yixia has been reported in 2024-2026, while ByteDance dominates the space.
Who owns Yixia?
Yixia is privately held, founded in 2011 by Han Kun in Beijing. Its last confirmed investor was Sina Weibo, which led a $500 million Series E-1 round in November 2016 alongside Sequoia Capital and Korea's YG Group, per an SEC filing.
What is Yixia's biggest competitor?
ByteDance's Douyin and Kuaishou Technology are Yixia's biggest competitors. Both consolidated China's short-video market after 2018, the same year regulators ordered Yixia's Miaopai app removed from app stores for content-moderation failures in July 2018.
Is joining Yixia a safe career move in 2026?
Joining Yixia carries high uncertainty: no funding, acquisition, or product news has surfaced since its $500 million Series E-1 round in November 2016, and no credible 2024-2026 reporting confirms current headcount or revenue, suggesting possible dormancy.
Has Yixia raised any new funding recently?
No. Yixia's last confirmed funding was a $500 million Series E-1 round led by Sina Weibo in November 2016, documented in an SEC filing. No subsequent round, acquisition, or ownership change has been reported through 2026.
