The call

Yubi holds a position banks structurally can't replicate, but its own math (near break-even revenue-to-loss ratio, a founder funding the gap, a failed institutional raise) is the harder problem right now.

Yubi connects borrowers to multiple lenders through a neutral platform, a job that individual banks like Axis or HDFC won't replicate themselves because doing so would help their competitors. The trouble is that Yubi is losing almost as much money as it makes (losing roughly 400 crores while earning 660 crores per year), its founder is now personally funding the company, and its staff is shrinking. A well-funded rival called Recur Club is going after the same small business and startup lending market. The one thing that matters most: whether Yubi can raise new money from outside investors (a sign people believe in it) or whether the founder has to keep writing personal checks (a sign the market has given up on the original 2022 valuation).

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. No AI lender-matching product is displacing Yubi yet; automated underwriting could eventually squeeze its fee layer. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank. Big banks keep top borrowers on direct relationships and cheaper funding, routing the largest debt mandates around Yubi's marketplace. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Banks can't build a neutral marketplace for each other, so Yubi's system-of-record role across 6,200+ lenders is hard for any single bank to copy.
What would change this call
Yubi closes or fails an institutional equity round in the next 12 months. Shows whether outside investors still trust Yubi's valuation or only the founder does.
Recur Club announces a Series B or reports SME market-share gains. Would show Yubi losing ground in its core marketplace segment.
Yubi's FY26 audited financials are filed and reconcile the ₹416cr vs ₹60cr loss dispute. Confirms whether Yubi's true burn rate matches the more severe or milder estimate.

Questions people ask
Is Yubi profitable in 2025?
No. Per Inc42's reading of company filings, Yubi posted a net loss of ₹416.1 crore in FY25 (ended March 2025) on revenue of ₹660.1 crore. A separate Moneycontrol report cites a smaller ₹60 crore loss. Yubi targets profitability by March 2027 ahead of a planned 2028 IPO.
Who owns Yubi and is it public?
Yubi, formerly CredAvenue, is privately held and VC-backed, founded in 2020 by CEO Gaurav Kumar. It last carried an institutional valuation of roughly $1.3-1.5B as of July 2023, and no confirmed parent company exists.
Who is Yubi's biggest competitor?
Recur Club, an AI-native debt marketplace targeting the same SME/startup segment as Yubi, raised $50M in a Series A round in September 2025. Large Indian banks Axis, HDFC, and ICICI also compete for big-ticket lending mandates via direct client relationships.
Could AI replace Yubi's platform?
Yubi's own AI layer, YuVerse, automates underwriting, OCR, and credit memos, but the company's defensibility rests on direct integrations with roughly 80% of India's largest financial institutions and a claimed network of 17,000+ enterprises, not the AI models themselves, per company statements from March 2026.
Did Yubi raise new funding recently?
Yes. Yubi raised ₹411 crore on November 18, 2025, combining ₹336 crore of structured debt from EvolutionX Debt Capital and ₹75 crore equity from founder Gaurav Kumar, after a planned $150-200M institutional raise targeted for Q1 2025 reportedly did not materialize.
Is Yubi planning an IPO?
Yubi is targeting an IPO within 18-24 months, roughly by 2028, contingent on reaching profitability by March 2027, with a pre-IPO fundraise planned first, according to Moneycontrol reporting dated March 19, 2026.
