The call

Zhihuishu's course base and quiz-based engagement model are both being pulled apart, one by a free state platform and one by AI-era scripts.

Zhihuishu lets universities and students access online courses and video lessons, similar to Coursera or other online learning sites. It is becoming hard to stay relevant because the Chinese government just launched a free national platform (higher.smartedu.cn) that does the same thing for free and has official power to give course credit, plus AI chatbots can now teach and answer questions almost as well as Zhihuishu's videos and quizzes. The one thing that could save Zhihuishu is if it builds AI features fast enough, but so far there is no sign it has done this, while the government platform keeps pulling courses away from it.

Why
01
AI pressure: Generative AI tutors (Zhipu GLM, DeepSeek, Moonshot) and auto-answer scripts. AI tutors can replicate its video-plus-quiz model, and auto-answer scripts already beat its anti-cheating checks. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: Chinese Ministry of Education's national platform (higher.smartedu.cn). The free state platform is absorbing course listings that used to run through Zhihuishu, per current course pages. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Existing credit ties with about 3,000 universities, though the same ministry also runs the free rival platform.
What would change this call
Course migration volume from Zhihuishu to higher.smartedu.cn over the next 6-12 months. Faster migration shows universities shifting course hosting to the free state platform.
Whether Zhihuishu ships an AI-native tutoring or grading product. Would show Zhihuishu repositioning against AI tutors like DeepSeek instead of just hosting videos.
Any disclosed 2024-2026 revenue, funding round, or headcount change at Zhihuishu. Would confirm whether the business is shrinking or stabilizing under the described pressure.

Questions people ask
Is Zhihuishu profitable in 2026?
No verified revenue, profit, or funding figures for Zhihuishu exist for 2024 through 2026. The most recent traffic-based estimate dates to September 2021, and no third-party financial press or filings covering the company's finances have been located as of July 2026.
Could AI replace Zhihuishu's core product?
Zhihuishu's model relies on timed video watching plus embedded pop-quizzes. That anti-cheating mechanic was already being defeated by browser auto-play scripts circulated on GitHub and Tencent Cloud, with a patch documented September 16, 2025, showing the format is easily automated.
Who is Zhihuishu's biggest competitor?
The Chinese Ministry of Education's own free platform, higher.smartedu.cn, is the clearest threat since it holds actual credit-certification authority and was hosting migrated Zhihuishu course listings as of July 1, 2026, undercutting Zhihuishu's paid intermediary role.
Who owns Zhihuishu?
The higher-education platform at zhihuishu.com is operated by Shanghai Zhuoyue Ruixin Digital Technology Co., Ltd., per its App Store listing. A separate kindergarten product also branded Zhihuishu is run by a different company, Beijing Huanyu Intelligent Star Technology Co., Ltd., as of September 4, 2024.
How many universities use Zhihuishu?
A 2020 peer-reviewed comparison in the International Journal of Business and Social Science reported Zhihuishu serving close to 3,000 Chinese universities through shared credit courses, live-streamed lectures, and virtual experiment courses.
Has Zhihuishu launched any AI tutoring features?
No verified evidence as of 2026 shows Zhihuishu has announced AI-tutor, AI-grading, or generative-AI features, unlike peer platform Chaoxing, which vendor-markets AI-assisted study tools, though those claims remain unconfirmed by third parties.
