Fubon vs Yuanta: Two 'Hard to displace' Ratings, One Visible Threat
Fubon and Yuanta both rate Hard to displace in our July 2026 assessment of 10,525 companies, but only Yuanta shows a rival closing in on its lead.
Taiwan's financial holding sector is crowded, but two names sit near the top of most conversations: Fubon Financial Holdings and Yuanta Financial Holdings. Both landed the strongest standing label in our durability assessment. The interesting part is where they differ, and the difference comes down to one thing: who has a rival visibly closing the gap.
Of the 10,525 companies assessed in WillItSurvive's July 2026 assessment, both Fubon Financial Holdings and Yuanta Financial Holdings carry the top standing label, Hard to displace. This comparison is one of 412 head-to-head comparisons in that assessment, generated July 31, 2026. Everything below comes from that record. We never declare an outcome for a company; forward-looking material appears only as dated watch-items you can verify yourself.
Where the two are even
Three of the six comparison dimensions in the July 2026 record come out even, and they cover the structural questions.
Staying power of the core product. Fubon spans banking, insurance, securities, and asset management. Yuanta spans brokerage, banking, insurance, and futures. Both are diversified financial holding companies, and both are rated hard to displace on the durability of that core.
Exposure to AI. For both companies, the assessment rates AI as unlikely to absorb the product. Financial holding companies sell licensed, regulated services with balance-sheet risk attached. AI changes how the work gets done, not who is allowed to do it.
Copyability by a giant. Both are rated blocked. A large technology company cannot simply replicate a Taiwanese financial holding group; licensing, capital requirements, and local regulatory approval stand in the way for both firms equally.
So on the questions that usually decide whether a business model erodes, the two are matched. The split happens on competitive pressure and on what kind of numbers each company's evidence shows.
Where they split: rival pressure
This is the dimension the comparison headline hangs on. In the July 2026 assessment, no meaningful customer loss shows up in Fubon's evidence. Yuanta's evidence is different: TS Financial, the entity formed from the Taishin and Shin Kong merger, reached number four in Taiwan brokerage market share in April 2026 and is closing in on Yuanta's number one position.
In the July 2026 head-to-head record, TS Financial, formed from the Taishin and Shin Kong merger, had climbed to number four in brokerage share by April 2026, narrowing the gap on Yuanta's number one spot. That is not a claim that Yuanta loses the lead. It is a documented, dated fact about a competitor's trajectory, and it is the only rival-pressure signal in either company's file. Fubon's file, by contrast, contains no comparable threat, which is why the pressure dimension goes to Fubon.
Where they split: what the numbers show
Each company wins one numbers dimension, and the two dimensions measure different things.
Market leadership goes to Yuanta. As assessed in July 2026, Yuanta Financial Holdings held 17.24% of Taiwan brokerage share, 64.3% of margin financing share, and 26.5% of ETF assets under management share. Those are commanding positions, especially the margin financing figure, where Yuanta holds nearly two thirds of the market. Fubon's digest contains no comparable share figures, so this dimension goes to Yuanta by default of evidence.
Financial footing goes to Fubon. Fubon Financial Holdings posted NT$120.94 billion in full-year 2025 net profit, NT$97.34 billion in net profit for the first half of 2026, and NT$12.8755 trillion in total assets, per the July 2026 assessment. Yuanta's digest reports no profit or asset totals, so the financial scale dimension goes to Fubon, again partly by default of what each file contains.
Note the asymmetry. Fubon's evidence is about absolute scale; Yuanta's is about market position in specific businesses. The assessment record does not let us compare Yuanta's profits to Fubon's or Fubon's brokerage share to Yuanta's, because those figures simply are not in the respective digests. We report the gap in evidence rather than filling it.
The overall read
Across the six dimensions in the July 2026 comparison, three are even, Fubon takes two (rival pressure and financial footing), and Yuanta takes one (market leadership numbers). The comparison headline puts it plainly: Fubon holds the stronger position because no rival pressure shows up in its evidence, while Yuanta faces a shrinking lead as TS Financial closes in on its brokerage business.
That is a relative statement about visible evidence, not a verdict on either company. Both carry the same top standing. The practical difference for a reader is what to watch, and when.
What to watch, and by when
The July 2026 record lists three dated watch-items. Check them yourself; assessments age.
- TS Financial's brokerage share after its April 2026 push. If TS Financial keeps climbing from its April 2026 number-four position, the gap with Yuanta's number one spot tightens further and the pressure comparison shifts further against Yuanta.
- Yuanta's margin financing and ETF AUM shares. Any slip from the 64.3% margin financing share and 26.5% ETF AUM share recorded in July 2026 would erode Yuanta's one clear advantage in this comparison.
- Fubon's profit trend beyond H1 2026. Continued growth from the NT$97.34 billion first-half 2026 net profit figure would extend Fubon's lead on financial scale; a reversal would narrow it.
Questions this data answers
Which is more exposed to AI, Fubon or Yuanta? Neither, per the July 2026 assessment. AI is rated unlikely to absorb the core product for both Fubon and Yuanta, since both sell licensed, regulated financial services.
Which company faces more competitive pressure? Yuanta. TS Financial, born from the Taishin and Shin Kong merger, reached number four in brokerage share in April 2026 and is closing on Yuanta's number one position. Fubon's July 2026 evidence shows no comparable rival pressure or meaningful customer loss.
Which is bigger, Fubon or Yuanta? Fubon reports far larger absolute figures: NT$120.94 billion full-year 2025 net profit and NT$12.8755 trillion in total assets, per the July 2026 assessment. Yuanta's digest reports market share figures rather than profit or asset totals, so a direct size comparison is not in the record.
Who leads on market share? Yuanta, in the businesses where figures exist. As of July 2026 it held 17.24% brokerage share, 64.3% margin financing share, and 26.5% ETF AUM share, while Fubon's digest carries no comparable share numbers.
Could a big tech company copy either business? No. Both are rated blocked from copying by a giant in the July 2026 assessment, reflecting the licensing, capital, and regulatory barriers around Taiwan's financial holding sector.
How this comparison was built
This head-to-head is one of 412 in an assessment of 10,525 companies assessed in July 2026. Each record is built from a company research brief and checked against source documents before publication. Of the 1,571 contested records in the assessment, each received an additional round of review before being finalized. That result speaks to the method's ability to separate the fragile from the sturdy on pre-collapse facts. It does not license outcome claims about Fubon or Yuanta, and we make none.
