Byju's
Defunct Indian edtech firm now in insolvency proceedings with no live product
NCLT Bengaluru admitted Think & Learn into insolvency proceedings (CIRP) on BCCI claim
Byju's has no operating product, no staff, and no revenue to defend. Its remaining insolvency case decides only how creditors split what is left.
Byju's was an app that taught students through videos and practice problems, similar to Khan Academy or Coursera. The company ran out of money, shut down its main app in 2025, lost almost all its employees, and is now in court-ordered insolvency proceedings. AI chatbots like ChatGPT can now do what Byju's did (explain lessons, answer questions, give practice problems) for almost no cost, and Byju's had no special technology, student data lock-in, or legal protection to stop them.
