InVision
InVision made web based prototyping and handoff tools for digital product designers.
Announcement of full wind-down of InVision's design/collaboration services, effective end of 2024
InVision rented its position on top of the design workflow, and when Figma rebuilt that workflow from scratch, InVision had nothing left to stand on.
InVision sold software that designers used to share prototypes and hand off work to developers, but it lived on top of other design tools rather than being the main tool itself. Figma won by building a completely different kind of design tool that let teams work together in real time inside the browser, making InVision unnecessary. By 2022, InVision's sales had dropped in half and almost no one was using it anymore, so the company decided to shut down completely at the end of 2024 rather than try to keep going.
