LittleThings

A feel-good lifestyle content site that lived and died on Facebook's News Feed

What happened

LittleThings, Inc. shut down, laying off ~100 staff, after a failed sale process attributed to Facebook News Feed algorithm change (February 2018)

Why it did not hold

LittleThings exists today as an unlisted asset inside Wild Sky Media, with no public revenue, traffic, or plan since its 2018 collapse.

LittleThings publishes uplifting lifestyle stories and videos, relying almost entirely on Facebook and other social platforms to send it readers and ad money. It is extremely easy to replace because AI tools like ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews can now answer the same questions and share the same ideas without needing LittleThings at all, and Facebook itself has repeatedly cut off the money that publishers like this depend on. The one thing that could matter is whether its owner, Wild Sky Media, invests in ways to reach readers directly through email or apps instead of waiting for social platforms to send traffic its way.

01
AI pressure: AI answer engines (Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity). AI answer engines now summarize feel-good listicles directly, removing the click-through traffic this kind of site depends on.
02
Bigger players: Meta (Facebook News Feed). Facebook's 2018 News Feed change cut traffic from 58M to 40M monthly uniques overnight, and its 2025-2026 demonetization keeps hitting legacy publishers.
03
What protected it. None visible: Wild Sky Media discloses no revenue, traffic, or roadmap for the brand today.
