The call

Acronis has a sticky customer base and real profits, but flat revenue against growing rivals and an unresolved US exclusion order leave its next year doing the talking.

Acronis backs up and protects data for 750,000 customers, mostly through 20,000 partner companies that resell its software. It makes real money and has loyal customers, but its sales have stalled around $420 million per year while rivals like NinjaOne and Datto are growing faster. Microsoft is bundling similar backup and AI security features free into Office 365, making it harder for Acronis to win new customers, and routine security work is becoming simpler and cheaper as AI automates it. The company's new owner (private equity firm EQT) paid $3.5 to $4 billion assuming Acronis would grow fast, which has not happened yet. Watch whether a new sales leader can restart growth, or whether flat sales continue, which would mean EQT overpaid and the company loses value.

Why
01
AI pressure: Microsoft Copilot bundled into Defender and 365 backup. AI-driven patching and triage get bundled free into Microsoft 365, squeezing the routine tasks Acronis charges MSPs for. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Microsoft, plus peers Datto/Kaseya and NinjaOne. Microsoft can bundle backup and security into 365 for free, while same-size rivals grow faster in a market Acronis isn't. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. 20,000+ MSP partners and 750,000 customers face real switching costs to rip out backup and security tooling.
What would change this call
Acronis reports two consecutive quarters of double-digit revenue growth publicly. Would show new CRO's plan to scale past $1B is working and moat is converting to growth.
US DNI FASCSA exclusion order stays limited to federal or IC procurement, or expands to allied governments. Containment shows limited damage; expansion shows the geopolitical risk spreading to core customers.
NinjaOne or Datto/Kaseya publicly cite MSP wins taken from Acronis in earnings or press. Would confirm direct customer loss to same-industry rivals rather than just slower relative growth.

Questions people ask
Is Acronis profitable in 2026?
Former CEO Ezequiel Steiner stated in August 2024 that Acronis is a profitable company. Third-party estimates put 2026 revenue near $420.1M, roughly flat versus $426.3M in 2024, suggesting profitability without strong top-line growth, per Latka data dated 2026-07-02.
Who owns Acronis?
Swedish private equity firm EQT agreed in August 2024 to acquire a majority stake in Acronis, valuing it above $3.5B, with the deal closing in 2025. Founders, CVC, Springcoast Capital and BlackRock remain minority shareholders.
Is Acronis growing fast enough to justify its valuation?
Estimated revenue was about $328M in 2023, $426M in 2024, and $420M projected for 2026, essentially flat, while EQT valued the company above $3.5-4B in its August 2024 majority stake deal, a growth-priced multiple on a non-growing base.
Could AI replace Acronis's core products?
Acronis is shipping its own AI features rather than being displaced: in July 2025 it launched AI patch stability scoring and Copilot for software deployment, and in May 2026 unveiled a broader AI framework called Cyber Fabric and Cyber Intelligence for its MSP platform.
Is it safe to buy or use Acronis given US government issues?
On September 15, 2025, the US Director of National Intelligence issued a FASCSA exclusion order barring Acronis from Intelligence Community systems, the first such order ever issued, and the GSA subsequently removed Acronis from GSA Advantage.
Who is Acronis's biggest competitor in the MSP market?
Acronis competes most directly with Datto/Kaseya, NinjaOne, Veeam, Commvault, Druva and N-able in the MSP backup and cybersecurity channel; NinjaOne alone reported surpassing $500M in ARR in its fiscal year ending around January 2026, outpacing Acronis's roughly flat revenue.
