The call

Adept kept its name and a product page after its people and technology went to Amazon, and it has yet to show anyone is paying for what's left.

Adept AI builds software that automates repetitive computer tasks across business applications, competing directly with companies like UiPath and Microsoft's Power Automate. The company is extremely hard to compete with right now not because of strength but because of weakness: it has no paying customers, no new funding since 2023, roughly $25 million left in the bank, and only about 20 employees, while Microsoft, Salesforce, UiPath, and Amazon (which licensed Adept's own technology) are all building the same product with much larger teams and resources. The company's original technology and founders went to Amazon in 2024, and most of them have already left, so there is no special technology locked up at Adept anymore. The one thing that could change everything is if Adept finds a paying customer willing to bet on the small team, or if it raises new funding, but neither has happened yet and the clock is ticking on their cash.

Why
01
AI pressure: Amazon Nova Act, built by former Adept leadership on licensed Adept IP. Amazon shipped a rival agent product in March 2025 using Adept's own licensed models and data, staffed by Adept's ex-CEO and co-founders. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: Microsoft (Copilot/Power Automate), Salesforce (Agentforce), UiPath. Microsoft, Salesforce, and UiPath all sell workflow automation agents with bigger sales teams, more capital, and existing enterprise contracts. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Non-exclusive licensing means Adept still owns its models and can sell them to others, but no named customer proves this matters yet.
What would change this call
Adept announces new outside funding round beyond the 2024 Amazon licensing payment. Would show independent survival capacity rather than reliance on residual capital.
Adept names a Fortune 500 customer with public ROI figures. Would show real commercial traction instead of a lottery-ticket cash shell.
Further departures from Adept's ~20-person team or from Amazon's Nova Act leadership. Would show whether the underlying talent and tech base is stabilizing or dissolving.

Questions people ask
Is Adept AI profitable?
No revenue figures have ever been publicly disclosed by Adept AI, per eesel.ai as of 2025-10-06. The company runs on roughly $25M in residual capital from its 2024 Amazon licensing deal and has no confirmed named enterprise customers, making profitability unverifiable and unlikely at current scale.
Could AI replace Adept AI?
Yes, plausibly. Adept's own niche, agentic workflow automation, is being natively absorbed by hyperscalers: Amazon's Nova Act launched March 2025 using licensed Adept technology and former Adept leadership, while Microsoft and Salesforce push competing agent products into the same enterprise market.
Who owns Adept AI?
Adept AI remains an independently owned private company; Amazon never acquired equity. In June 2024, Amazon struck a non-exclusive license for Adept's models, agentic data, and web-interaction tech, and hired CEO David Luan plus four co-founders, per GeekWire, 2024-07-03.
Who is Adept AI's biggest competitor?
UiPath is the RPA incumbent Adept's 'Adept Workflows' product directly targets, per Dynamic Business, 2026-01-20. But the sharper threat is Amazon's Nova Act, built from licensed Adept technology by Adept's own former team and launched March 2025.
Did Amazon acquire Adept AI?
No. Amazon did not acquire Adept; in June 2024 it signed a non-exclusive licensing deal for Adept's models and data and hired CEO David Luan and four co-founders into its AGI team, while Adept continued operating independently, per GeekWire, 2024-07-03.
How much money has Adept AI raised, and is it raising more?
Adept has raised over $415M lifetime, including a $350M Series B in March 2023 at roughly a $1B valuation, per TechCrunch and eesel.ai (2025-10-06). No new funding round has been reported since 2023, aside from the ~$25M Amazon licensing payment in 2024.
