The call

Adform has outlived two bankrupt rivals on profitability alone, but its June 2026 AI agent rollout will decide whether it becomes plumbing or gets priced out by bigger players like The Trade Desk.

Adform sells software that helps advertisers buy digital ads across the internet. It has stayed alive while competitors like MediaMath went bankrupt, and it is protected somewhat because Google and Meta keep independent companies like it around for legal reasons. However, it is much smaller than The Trade Desk, which does the same thing at a massive scale, and artificial intelligence tools like ChatGPT are starting to do the jobs Adform's software does, like picking which ads to bid on and finding the right audience. The big test is whether Adform's new deal to let AI assistants plug directly into its system will make customers stick around because they trust the connection, or whether it will just make it easier for those customers to leave and use cheaper, simpler tools instead.

Why
01
AI pressure: Agentic AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot) accessing Adform via its own MCP server. Adform's June 2026 MCP rollout lets AI agents run bidding and reporting, which could lock clients in or let agencies shop the backend on price. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: The Trade Desk. The Trade Desk is 20 to 50 times larger and dominates the same independent-DSP space Adform competes in. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Profitable and debt-free with no lenders to answer to, plus a base of former MediaMath and Xandr clients who need a non-walled-garden home.
What would change this call
Adform's per-customer ad spend and retention data through Q4 2026 after June 2026 MCP launch. Shows whether the AI agent layer deepens client stickiness or just adds a thin interface.
Whether Publicis or Omnicom shift more programmatic spend toward Adform after their Trade Desk audits. Would indicate Adform is capturing budget displaced from the larger incumbent.
Splicky (Goldbach) acquisition closing and DACH DOOH revenue reported in 2026 filings. Confirms whether the deal adds real revenue or stalls on closing conditions.
Key numbers
  • Revenue about $79M estimated for 2024 (2024-12)
  • EBITDA about $16.6M on ~$95.9M revenue in 2023 (2023)
  • Absorbed clients from MediaMath's ~3,500 accounts after its 2023 bankruptcy (2023-06)
Named risks
  • June 2026 MCP/agentic AI move could commoditize Adform's interface layer and accelerate disintermediation. Severity: high
  • Sub-scale position as distant #3/#4 independent DSP behind The Trade Desk and Criteo. Severity: medium
  • Publicly reported revenue figures wildly inconsistent across third-party sources, limiting verifiable financial transparency. Severity: medium
  • Structural dependency on identity resolution amid ongoing third-party cookie deprecation and Privacy Sandbox changes. Severity: medium
  • Splicky acquisition (announced Dec 2025) still subject to closing conditions, integration outcome unproven. Severity: low

Questions people ask
Is Adform profitable in 2026?
Adform describes itself as debt-free, profitable, and stable, a claim it made publicly in June 2023 during MediaMath's collapse. The company has no disclosed debt and has operated since a 2019 GRO Capital equity injection without further reported losses, though independent audited figures remain unpublished.
Who owns Adform?
Adform is privately held. Nordic PE firm GRO Capital became a shareholder in April 2019 with a significant equity injection alongside existing investor VIA Equity and management; GRO's Lars Dybkjaer and Lars Lunde and chairman Torben Munch joined the board that month.
Could AI replace Adform's DSP platform?
In June 2026 Adform opened its full FLOW platform via an MCP server to Claude, ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot, exposing what it calls 800+ agentic capabilities. This concedes that bid optimization, segmentation and reporting, its core DSP value, can increasingly be run by AI agents rather than Adform's own UI.
Who is Adform's biggest competitor?
The Trade Desk is Adform's largest independent-DSP rival, estimated 20 to 50 times bigger, and the dominant player in the same non-walled-garden category Adform competes in. Criteo, generating $1.67B in Performance Media revenue in 2024, is the other major independent-adtech competitor pressuring Adform's share.
Did Adform ever try to go public?
Yes. Adform applied for an IPO on Nasdaq Copenhagen in 2018 but withdrew the application in December 2018 citing market volatility. No renewed IPO plans have surfaced as of 2026; the company has remained privately held since, backed by GRO Capital and VIA Equity.
How did Adform benefit from MediaMath's bankruptcy?
When MediaMath filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy on June 30, 2023 with about $100M in debt after raising over $600M historically, Adform actively marketed itself to MediaMath's roughly 3,500 orphaned brand and agency customers as an accelerated onboarding alternative.
