The call

Agorapulse survives on integration lock-in while its own AI partnerships and bigger rivals both squeeze the room it has left to grow.

Agorapulse helps businesses manage social media accounts from one dashboard, combining posting tools, message inboxes, and now AI writing assistance. The problem is that nearly every competitor offers the same features, larger companies like Sprout Social and Hootsuite do it better with more resources, and free tools from Meta and AI chatbots like ChatGPT now do the writing part just as well. The company is trying to move upmarket to bigger clients after losing small business customers, but if it keeps shrinking or if another social platform changes how outside tools connect, Agorapulse could lose what's left of its advantage.

Why
01
AI pressure: ChatGPT/Claude and other frontier models handling captions, hashtags, and reporting. Agorapulse built its own MCP link to ChatGPT and Claude in Jan 2026, admitting the model can do the writing work itself. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Sprout Social, Hootsuite, and free Meta Business Suite. Sprout Social pulls agencies upmarket, Hootsuite outguns on scale, Meta Business Suite gives small accounts a free alternative. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Workflow lock-in from unified inbox and API integrations across 11,000+ client companies, plus the new Mention listening data.
What would change this call
Agorapulse completes forced migration off legacy subscription plans to per-user pricing in 2026. Would reveal how much churn or backlash the pricing change causes among existing customers.
Agorapulse headcount reported below 130 or rebounding toward its 185-192 peak. Would show whether the company is still contracting or stabilizing after 2024-25 highs.
Sprout Social announces or reports specific wins in agency or mid-market accounts previously served by Agorapulse. Would confirm larger incumbents are actively displacing Agorapulse in its core segment.
Key numbers
  • ~$24M ARR at Mention acquisition (May 2025)
  • Headcount down to 130-170 from 185-192 peak (2025-2026)

Named risks

  • Core AI features like caption writing and reporting are commoditized by generic LLMs Agorapulse itself integrated. Severity: high
  • Squeezed between free Meta Business Suite below and Sprout Social or Sprinklr above in mid-market. Severity: medium
  • Legacy subscription migration in 2026 risks churn among grandfathered customers. Severity: medium

Questions people ask
Is Agorapulse profitable in 2026?
Agorapulse has not disclosed profitability. Third party estimates put ARR near $20M in 2024 (Latka) and the company cited nearly $24M ARR around its May 2025 acquisition of Mention, but no profit figures have been published.
Who owns Agorapulse?
Agorapulse is privately held, founded by Emeric Ernoult and Benoit Hediard in September 2011. It raised about $18 to $18.7M in 2019 from Cipio Partners, Entrepreneur Venture, and Hi Inov Dentressangle; Pitchbook now lists it as private equity backed.
Is Agorapulse laying off employees?
Headcount trends are ambiguous: Latka cited about 192 employees in October 2024 and 185 at the May 2025 Mention acquisition, but a June 2026 job posting describes only 130+ people across 15 countries, suggesting possible contraction.
Could ChatGPT replace Agorapulse?
Agorapulse shipped a native ChatGPT and Claude integration via self hosted MCP in January 2026, letting users run the platform from inside those assistants, a move that signals its own caption, hashtag, and reporting features are becoming directly substitutable by generic LLMs.
Who is Agorapulse's biggest competitor?
Agorapulse competes with Sprout Social (public, enterprise focused) and Hootsuite (16M+ users, 1,000+ staff per Wikipedia, July 2026), plus Buffer, Sendible, Zoho Social and Metricool, while free Meta Business Suite has already eroded its small business tier since 2021 to 2022.
Did Agorapulse acquire another company?
Yes. Agorapulse acquired social listening platform Mention in May 2025, rebranding it Mention by Agorapulse, its first disclosed acquisition, aimed at adding listening and intelligence capability to the core SMM product.
