The call

Alchemy still runs real infrastructure for real enterprise clients, but its valuation, hiring, and technical edge have all sat still while Google, Coinbase, and open standards catch up.

Alchemy builds the plumbing that lets companies like Visa and Stripe talk to blockchain networks. It makes real money (around $447 million a year) and has real customers, but three things are eating away at what made it special: other companies like Ankr and QuickNode now offer the same basic service cheaper, Google Cloud and Amazon started offering their own versions, and AI coding tools can now write the code that used to be hard enough to justify paying Alchemy. The company has not raised new funding in nearly four years, is smaller than it was a year ago, and is barely hiring, which suggests it stopped growing. If a new investor re-tests the price of the company's stock (down from a peak of $10.2 billion in 2022), that number will show whether Alchemy is truly stuck or just paused.

Why
01
AI pressure: AI coding agents and the open MCP standard. MCP became a Linux Foundation standard, so any provider can plug agents into chains, erasing Alchemy's proprietary agent-tooling edge. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Google Cloud, AWS, Azure. Google Cloud's blockchain node engine already offers node hosting directly, competing with Alchemy's core RPC business. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Deep integrations with Visa, Stripe, Circle, JPMorgan and 9 of the top 10 rollups create switching costs that raw RPC pricing can't easily undo.
What would change this call
Alchemy announces a new funding round or discloses valuation within 12 months. A flat-or-higher round signals investor confidence; a down-round signals distress.
Coinbase Developer Platform, Circle, or Privy publish enterprise customer wins naming logos also used by Alchemy. Would show enterprise accounts shifting away from Alchemy.
Alchemy headcount or open-role count in quarterly filings/LinkedIn data. Continued shrinkage would confirm plateau rather than growth.
Key numbers
  • $10.2B valuation, unchanged for 47 months (Feb 2022)
  • Estimated $447M ARR (third-party) (Nov 2025)
  • Headcount down 8% YoY, only 2 open roles (Jul 2026)
Named risks
  • No new funding round in 47 months as of mid-2026, with valuation stapled to 2022 crypto-cycle peak. Severity: high
  • MCP standard, Alchemy's AI-agent bet, was donated to Linux Foundation governance in Dec 2025, removing proprietary advantage. Severity: high
  • Base RPC/node layer commoditized by cheaper rivals like Ankr and dRPC. Severity: medium
  • Headcount down 8 percent year over year with only 2 open roles as of mid-2026 signals growth stagnation. Severity: medium
  • Revenue tied to usage-based pricing exposes Alchemy directly to crypto market volatility. Severity: medium

Questions people ask
Is Alchemy profitable in 2026?
Alchemy has not disclosed profitability figures. A third-party tracker estimated 2025 ARR at 447 million dollars as of November 2025, but this is an outside estimate, not a company disclosure, and no profit or loss data has been published.
Has Alchemy raised new funding recently?
No. Alchemy's last confirmed round was a 200 million dollar Series C-1 in February 2022 at a 10.2 billion dollar valuation. As of July 2026, a tracker noted it had been 47 months since that raise, with no new equity round announced since.
Could AI replace Alchemy's core product?
Alchemy's base RPC and node-access layer faces commoditization from Ankr, dRPC, and QuickNode, and AI coding agents can increasingly query chain data directly. Alchemy responded by shipping its own MCP server around May 2025 and adding agent wallets in 2026 to stay relevant to AI agents.
Who is Alchemy's biggest competitor?
Direct rivals include Infura, QuickNode, Ankr, and dRPC in node infrastructure, while Coinbase Developer Platform, Circle, Privy, and Turnkey compete in agent-payment infrastructure. Google Cloud also launched its own blockchain node engine, directly challenging Alchemy's AWS-for-blockchain positioning.
Who owns Alchemy?
Alchemy is privately held and venture-backed, founded in 2017 by Nikil Viswanathan (CEO) and Joe Lau (President). Investors include a16z, Coatue, Lightspeed, Silver Lake, Pantera, DFJ Growth, Addition, and Coinbase, per its 2021 Series C announcement.
Does Alchemy have layoffs happening?
No formal layoffs have been reported, but headcount was down 8 percent year over year as of mid-2026 per Crustdata, with only 2 open roles listed, suggesting hiring has slowed sharply since its 2022 funding peak.
