The call

AMI Labs is a richly funded research bet on world models with no product, no revenue, and faster-shipping rivals already selling in the market.

AMI Labs is a research company working on world models, software that learns to predict and understand the physical world by watching videos. The problem is that Meta, Google, and NVIDIA have all already released their own world model products, and they have more money, more data, and shipping experience. AMI Labs has no special advantage like exclusive data, locked-in customers, or patents that competitors cannot work around. The one thing that could change this is if AMI's research breakthroughs prove so much better than what Meta FAIR, Google DeepMind, or NVIDIA released that one of their big investor partners (like Toyota or Samsung) actually signs a real contract to use AMI's technology in a product, rather than just owning a piece of the company.

Why
01
AI pressure: World Labs (Fei-Fei Li). World Labs already sells Marble, a paid world-model product, while AMI has no product, revenue, or public benchmark yet. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: Meta FAIR, Google DeepMind, NVIDIA. Meta's V-JEPA 2, DeepMind's Genie 3, and NVIDIA's Cosmos are all live world-model systems, shipped before AMI has released anything. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. A $1.03B seed round and LeCun's reputation buy years of runway and top talent, but no product, data, or signed contract backs the valuation yet.
What would change this call
AMI publishes its first preprint or benchmark result (expected within 6 months of June 2026). Shows whether AMI has a technical edge over V-JEPA 2, Genie 3, or Cosmos.
Any AMI strategic investor (Toyota, Samsung, NVIDIA, Temasek) signs a contracted embodied-AI deployment. Would convert cap-table access into real commercial distribution.
World Labs announces a new funding round valuation above $5B. Would reset comparable valuation expectations downward for AMI.
Key numbers
  • $1.03B seed round values AMI at $4.53B (2026-03-09)
  • About 12 employees across four hubs (2026-06-06)
  • Zero revenue, no commercial product reported (2026-03-09)
Named risks
  • Zero revenue and no shipped product as of mid-2026 despite $4.53B valuation. Severity: high
  • Meta, DeepMind, NVIDIA, and World Labs have already shipped competing world-model products. Severity: high
  • Only 2 preprints published and roughly 12 staff as of June 2026, thin proof points for the valuation. Severity: medium
  • No contracted commercial deployment, only investor relationships on cap table. Severity: medium
  • Next funding round may require demonstrable technical progress to avoid a flat or down round. Severity: medium

Questions people ask
Is AMI Labs profitable in 2026?
No. AMI Labs has zero reported revenue and no commercial product as of March 9, 2026, when it closed its $1.03B seed round. CEO Alexandre LeBrun has said AMI is not a typical applied AI startup expecting revenue within a year, and Wikipedia describes a roughly five-year horizon before any saleable product.
Could AI replace AMI Labs?
AMI Labs is itself a frontier AI research lab building world models, so the risk isn't automation replacing it but being outpaced by better-funded rivals. Meta FAIR, Google DeepMind, and NVIDIA had already shipped competing world-model systems (V-JEPA 2, Genie 3, Cosmos) before AMI released any product.
Who owns AMI Labs?
AMI Labs was founded in late 2025 by Yann LeCun after he left his role as Meta's Chief AI Scientist in November 2025. It raised a $1.03B seed round announced March 9, 2026 at a $4.53B post-money valuation, co-led by Cathay Innovation, Greycroft, Hiro Capital, HV Capital, and Bezos Expeditions.
Who is AMI Labs' biggest competitor?
World Labs, founded by Fei-Fei Li, is the closest direct rival, already selling its Marble world-model product at $20 to $95 per month and acquiring robotics company SceniX on July 21, 2026 to push into embodied AI, well ahead of AMI's pre-product timeline.
Has AMI Labs shipped any product yet?
No. As of mid-2026 AMI Labs had released only two research preprints, published and covered on May 31, 2026, probing its JEPA-based architecture's capabilities and limits. No commercial product, pricing, or customer deployment has been announced by the company.
How much funding has AMI Labs raised?
AMI Labs raised a $1.03 billion seed round announced March 9, 2026, at a $3.5 billion pre-money and $4.53 billion post-money valuation, reportedly the largest seed round in European startup history, backed by NVIDIA, Samsung, Temasek, and Toyota Ventures among others.
