France
209 companies assessed. 107 of them, 51.2%, sit in the two least protected bands, against 53.3% across all 10,525 companies assessed.
France's biggest companies are mostly fine. Air Liquide, L'Oreal, Hermes, Chanel, TotalEnergies, the big banks, EDF, Vinci, Safran and Naval Group all show low pressure and high moat scores because they sell things AI does not easily replace: industrial gas contracts, luxury craftsmanship, nuclear plants, jet engines, submarines, insurance books built over decades. The trouble sits in two other groups. First, digital and consumer platforms that depended on being a cheaper or easier middleman: PrestaShop, ManoMano, Showroomprivé, BeReal, SFR, Meero, Sorare. Bigger rivals with more scale or better AI features are eating their user base and their pricing power one renewal or one app update at a time. Second, AI-native companies like Mistral AI, Nabla, Algolia, Systran and Bravi that built real products but are now competing against Microsoft, Google, OpenAI, DeepSeek and category leaders with more money and distribution. Teleperformance and Atos face a related squeeze: AI directly automates the labor they used to sell by the seat. The dynamic deciding all of it is the same: does the company own something AI cannot copy (a physical network, a license, decades of trust) or is it selling a service that AI, or a bigger AI-equipped rival, can now do instead.
Every company in France is listed in the A to Z index and in its sector league.
- will Mistral AI survive against OpenAI and DeepSeek
- Mistral's usage has tripled but its share of the raw model market fell from 10% to 2% as OpenAI, Anthropic and Google DeepMind take premium demand and DeepSeek and Qwen undercut on price. It is still operating and growing in absolute terms, but its position in the open model race is getting squeezed from both sides.
- why is Teleperformance losing business to AI
- Teleperformance runs outsourced call centers, and AI voice and chat agents from vendors like Parloa and Ema plus companies building their own in-house tools are handling volume that used to require human seats. Its headcount is down 17% since 2023 as a direct result.
- what French ecommerce companies are shrinking
- PrestaShop, ManoMano and Showroomprivé are all under heavy pressure. PrestaShop's installed base is shrinking 15% a year against Shopify, ManoMano's GMV is down about 20% since 2022, and Showroomprivé is outscaled by Veepee, Zalando Lounge, Shein and Temu.
- can BeReal recover from losing users to Instagram
- BeReal's daily users fell from about 20 million in 2022 to roughly 12 million now, driven by Instagram's Instants feature launched in May 2026 and Snapchat's dual-camera clone. There is no evidence in its current numbers of that decline reversing.
