The call

ANE is profitable and growing but now private and opaque just as JD and SF push harder into the same freight lanes.

ANE Logistics operates a network of 38,000+ delivery partners across China, handling packages for businesses. It is hard to copy because it took 15 years to build relationships with all these partners and reaches 99.6% of counties, but SF Express and JD Logistics are much larger and just got bigger when JD bought Kuayue Express in late 2024. The company makes only thin profits (about 9%), and if JD Logistics uses its new Kuayue division to cut prices or steal ANE's customers in the next year or two, ANE's growth and profits could shrink noticeably.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. Routing and dispatch software helps ANE run its network tighter, but no AI product threatens the freight-moving itself. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: SF Holding and JD Logistics (via Dec 2024 Kuayue Express acquisition). JD now owns an LTL specialist and SF has far more cash, both squeezing ANE on price in a thin-margin market. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. 38,000+ franchise partners and 15 years of county-level coverage that a rival cannot buy or build overnight.
What would change this call
JD Logistics reports Kuayue Express LTL volume or revenue growth in 2026 filings. Would show JD converting the Kuayue deal into real share gains against ANE.
ANE's next disclosed gross margin falls below 12%. Would indicate price competition from SF or JD is compressing ANE's economics.
Reports of ANE franchise partner terminations or network coverage shrinking below 99%. Would show the distribution moat weakening under competitive pressure.

Named risks
  • Industry consolidation with top 5 players at 82% share as of Q1 2025 could squeeze ANE's positioning. Severity: high

  • Revenue growth decelerated from 16.7% in FY2024 to 6.4% in H1 2025, signaling slowing momentum. Severity: medium

Questions people ask
Is ANE Logistics profitable in 2025?
Yes. ANE reported FY2024 adjusted net profit of RMB 837 million, up 64.2% year on year as of March 20, 2025, and Q1 2025 adjusted net profit of RMB 242 million, up 15.9% year on year, with a 9.4% net margin.
Is ANE Logistics still publicly traded?
No. A consortium led by Centurium Capital, Temasek and True Light Capital completed a take private of ANE on February 9, 2026, delisting it from the Hong Kong Stock Exchange at a 48.54% premium in a deal valued around US$1.84 billion.
Who owns ANE Logistics now?
Since February 9, 2026, ANE is privately held by a consortium: Centurium Capital holds a controlling 51.78% stake, with Temasek and True Light Capital each holding roughly 17.35%, per the completed take private transaction.
Who is ANE Logistics' biggest competitor?
SF Holding, with 2024 revenue reported over RMB 220 billion, and JD Logistics, which acquired LTL rival Kuayue Express for about US$892 million in December 2024 to directly enter ANE's core less than truckload segment.
Could AI replace ANE Logistics?
Unlikely to replace it directly. ANE's moat is a physical network of over 38,000 franchise partners covering 99.6% of China's counties and townships, built over 15 years; AI mainly touches route optimization and forecasting, not the hub and trucking infrastructure itself.
Is ANE Logistics growing or slowing down?
Growth has decelerated. FY2024 revenue rose 16.7% to RMB 11.58 billion, but H1 2025 revenue growth slowed to just 6.4% year on year to RMB 5,625 million, amid intensifying top five industry consolidation.
