The call

AppHarvest went from a $1B SPAC debut to Chapter 11 liquidation in under three years; its greenhouses now run under Bosch, Equilibrium, and Mastronardi.

AppHarvest grew vegetables indoors using technology in large greenhouses, but the company ran out of money and shut down in July 2023, with its bankruptcy finalized by December 2023. Its four greenhouses were sold off to other companies like Bosch Growers and Mastronardi Produce, so AppHarvest no longer exists as a business. There are ongoing lawsuits from shareholders who claim executives misled them about the company's prospects, and the bankruptcy court still has claims to resolve through June 2026, which could affect what remaining value might go to investors.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. AppHarvest has no operations left to disrupt; the entity is dissolved and AI competition is moot. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: Bosch Growers and Mastronardi Produce. These firms already bought AppHarvest's four greenhouses in the bankruptcy auction; there is no company left for them to threaten. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. None remains: the corporate entity dissolved in liquidation and cannot resume operating under this name.

Questions people ask
Is AppHarvest still operating in 2026?
No. AppHarvest filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy on July 23-24, 2023, its liquidation plan became effective December 5, 2023, and all four Kentucky greenhouses were sold to new owners. As of March 2026 the entity exists only for bankruptcy claims administration, not as an operating business.
Can I get a job at AppHarvest?
Not under the AppHarvest name. The company dissolved after its 2023 Chapter 11 filing. Its former greenhouses are now run by Bosch Berries (Somerset, since Feb 2024), Equilibrium Capital (Morehead/Richmond), and Mastronardi Produce (Berea), each hiring under their own names.
Why did AppHarvest go bankrupt?
AppHarvest chronically missed sales projections, generating just $14.6 million revenue in FY2022 versus much higher targets, and by spring 2023 had only about $50 million cash against $182 million in debt. It filed Chapter 11 on July 23-24, 2023 with over $300 million in funded debt.
Who bought AppHarvest's greenhouses?
In bankruptcy auctions, Equilibrium Capital won the Morehead and Richmond facilities, Bosch Growers acquired the Somerset site (investing about $49 million, per Feb 11, 2024 Kentucky state announcement), and Mastronardi Produce bought the Berea facility for roughly $127 million.
Is AppHarvest stock (APPH) worth anything now?
No. AppHarvest (Nasdaq: APPH/APPHW) went through Chapter 11 liquidation confirmed September 14, 2023 and effective December 5, 2023. Equity holders in Chapter 11 liquidations are typically wiped out; the company has no operating business left.
Did AI replace or cause AppHarvest's collapse?
No. AppHarvest marketed itself as using AI and sensors for crop optimization, but its 2023 bankruptcy was driven by execution failures, missed revenue targets, and excessive debt, not AI substitution. The greenhouses' new owners (Bosch, Mastronardi) simply out-executed it.
