The call

A contract game studio with no owned product or audience was wound down by its parent in 2025, and nothing has since revived it.

Artplant was a Norwegian video game studio that made games under contract for other companies, rather than making and selling its own games. This kind of work became impossible to protect from competition, especially as larger publishers and cheaper overseas studios could do the same thing, and as AI tools started generating game art and code automatically. The only thing that could change this picture is if EG7 (the Swedish company that owns the Artplant name) decides to revive it with a new business model, such as owning its own game franchises instead of just doing contract work.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. Generative AI for art, scripting, and live-ops content makes contract studios like this one cheaper to replace, not directly attacked by a named AI product. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: Larger publishers and cheaper outsourcing shops (no single named predator). Parent Toadman/EG7 shut Artplant's Oslo office in Sept 2024 and wound down the studio in Jan 2025 after losing work-for-hire contracts. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. None apparent: no owned IP, no proprietary audience, no system of record protects this business.
What would change this call
EG7 issues formal confirmation of Artplant's dissolution or asset sale within 6 months. Would confirm the studio's remnants are fully closed out rather than dormant.
Any EG7 subsidiary (Piranha Games, Antimatter Games, Big Blue Bubble) uses 'Artplant' branding in hiring or projects. Would show the Artplant name persisting as residue on a different EG7 studio, not a real revival.
EG7 announces licensing or relaunch of Artplant IP under a new team with an owned live-service game. Would show EG7 building a real product with retained players instead of contract work.

Questions people ask
Is Artplant a Swedish studio that made Zombie Castaways?
No. Artplant is a Norwegian studio founded in Oslo in 2001, acquired by Swedish firm Toadman Interactive in 2018. Zombie Castaways is made by Vizor Apps/Vizor Games, a separate Belarus/Cyprus company founded 2007; no source links the two.
Is Artplant still operating in 2026?
No evidence of activity. Artplant's Oslo office closed September 2024, and parent Toadman Interactive formally announced a wind-down on 2025-01-13 citing an inability to secure new work-for-hire contracts. Wikipedia lists Artplant as probably inactive after 2019.
Who owns Artplant?
Artplant was acquired by Swedish studio Toadman Interactive AB in mid-2018. Toadman was renamed Enad Global 7 AB (EG7, Nasdaq First North) in January 2020, and Artplant sat under EG7's Toadman Studios subsidiary until that group's 2024-2025 wind-down.
Could AI replace what Artplant used to do?
Its core work, manual 3D asset production, scripting, and live-ops content for browser MMOs, is exactly the kind of labor generative AI asset and live-ops tools now automate. Parent Toadman cited an inability to win new work-for-hire contracts before winding down in January 2025.
What is Artplant's biggest competitor?
As a small work-for-hire studio, Artplant never held real market share against large mobile publishers like Take-Two/Zynga, whose titles posted strong growth in fiscal 2026, or against cheaper outsourcing shops that outcompeted parent Toadman for contracts before its 2025 wind-down.
What happened to Artplant's parent company EG7?
EG7 (formerly Toadman Interactive) closed its Stockholm, Visby, and Oslo offices in September 2024, then formally announced the wind-down of Toadman Interactive on 2025-01-13, laying off 38 staff at sister studio Piranha Games and citing lost work-for-hire contracts.
