The call

Asendia AI has a live product in an early, open category, sitting on top of the same ATS company that could build its feature next.

Asendia AI makes software that automatically finds and screens job candidates for staffing agencies that use Bullhorn's recruiting platform. The biggest problem: Bullhorn owns the platform Asendia plugs into and already bought a similar company (TargetRecruit) in August 2025, so it could easily build the same feature itself at no cost. Meanwhile, OpenAI is releasing voice interview technology that does much of what Asendia does, and five other startups are selling the same thing. The one thing that could save Asendia is if its customers stick around and renew their contracts for multiple years, which would prove that agencies actually need its specific knowledge of how they work, not just any AI recruiter.

Why
01
AI pressure: OpenAI real-time voice API. OpenAI's live real-time voice model now offers interview-style screening, closing the technical gap Asendia once claimed to lead on. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: Bullhorn. Bullhorn owns the ATS Asendia plugs into and just bought TargetRecruit, putting it a step from shipping the same screening agent natively. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Agencies already routing live calls and ATS write-backs through Asendia's agent, creating switching friction while it stays cheap to swap.
What would change this call
Bullhorn announces a native agentic sourcing/screening feature within its ATS. Would show the incumbent closing the gap Asendia AI depends on staying open.
Asendia AI names specific staffing agency customers with multi-year renewal data. Would validate or refute the claimed 'operational memory' data moat.
HeyMilo, GoPerfect, or Paradox announces a named agency win or funding round in this niche. Would show a better-funded peer capturing first-mover position instead.
Key numbers

  • Bullhorn ATS covers 10,000+ staffing agencies (2025-08)
  • Team size listed as 1-10 employees (2026)
Named risks
  • Bullhorn, which owns the ATS Asendia integrates with, could ship a native agentic recruiter. Severity: high
  • Core moat claim of proprietary agency-specific data flywheel is vendor-stated and unverified by retention data. Severity: high
  • Five or more similarly-funded competitors pitch nearly identical AI recruiter products as of mid-2026. Severity: medium
  • Core screening capability depends on frontier voice AI that is rapidly commoditizing. Severity: medium
  • Public revenue and headcount figures conflict across sources, complicating verification of traction. Severity: low

Questions people ask
Is Asendia AI profitable?
No profitability data is public. Asendia AI self-reports crossing $500K in ARR since joining YC as of its May 2026 Launch YC update, but this is a vendor-stated figure with no named customer logos or renewal data confirming sustained profitability.
Who owns Asendia AI?
Asendia AI is privately held and venture-backed, founded by CEO Rihab Lajmi and CTO Badis Zormati. Investors named across sources include Y Combinator, Angel Invest, EWOR, and N&V Capital, with a pre-seed round of roughly $500K reported around December 2024.
Could Bullhorn shut down Asendia AI?
Bullhorn, the dominant staffing ATS serving 10,000+ organizations, acquired TargetRecruit in August 2025 and has no revenue conflict against shipping a native agentic recruiter, which would directly undercut Asendia AI's core integration-dependent product.
Who are Asendia AI's biggest competitors?
Named rivals include HeyMilo, Sense (SenseHQ), Skima AI, Recruiterflow, Ceipal, JobDiva, Paradox, Mya, and GoPerfect, all pitching similar AI-agent sourcing and screening tools for staffing agencies as of mid-2026, per competitor comparison pages.
Could AI replace Asendia AI itself?
Asendia AI's own product automates recruiter screening using frontier voice AI; its co-founder says the company built real-time adaptive voice interviewing before OpenAI's public release, but that lead is described as eroding as frontier labs commoditize the same capability, per a May 2026 interview.
What does Asendia AI actually sell?
Asendia AI sells an AI agent, branded Sarah, that integrates with a staffing agency's ATS, clones top recruiters' screening logic, and autonomously sources, calls, and screens candidates across voice, SMS, WhatsApp, and email, syncing results back into the ATS, per its April 23, 2026 Launch YC post.
