The call

AUBO leads China's cobot market today, but faces a crowded domestic price war and a widening AI software gap against embodied-AI platforms.

AUBO makes robot arms used in factories and warehouses, and sells more of them than anyone else in China. It actually builds its own robots instead of outsourcing, which is hard to do, but eight other Chinese companies can do the same thing just as cheaply now. The real problem is that companies like Unitree and AgiBot are building smarter robots with artificial intelligence brains on top of basic arms like AUBO's, and if AUBO doesn't add that AI layer itself by mid-2027, it will just become a cheap part supplier instead of the maker of the whole robot. The one thing that could save the company is if it either builds its own AI platform or partners with a company that has one before its competitors do.

Why
01
AI pressure: Unitree, AgiBot, and Alibaba embodied-AI robot platforms. These rivals now ship full AI foundation-model stacks on robot arms, while AUBO still offers only force-feedback control. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Universal Robots (Teradyne), ABB, FANUC, KUKA, Yaskawa. These larger, richer rivals already sell competing cobots worldwide, but AUBO still leads China and ranks #2 globally. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. In-house manufacturing, 71 patents, work on 21 industry standards, and 200+ distributors keep AUBO ahead of cheaper Chinese copycats.
What would change this call
AUBO ships or partners into an AI/foundation-model software layer by mid-2027. Would show AUBO can escape commoditization by rivals and AI-platform entrants.
AUBO files for IPO or announces major funding round in 2026. Would show AUBO closing capital gap versus peers listing at multi-billion valuations.
G-series heavy-payload orders/revenue reported for 2026. Would show whether AUBO's newest product line gains real commercial traction.
Key numbers
  • Cobot revenue about $139M in 2024 (2024)
  • 36% share of China's domestic cobot market (2024)
  • Ranked #1 in China, #2 worldwide in cobot sales (2025)
Named risks
  • Margin compression from price war among 8+ Chinese cobot manufacturers. Severity: high
  • Robot arm commoditization as value shifts to embodied-AI software layers (Unitree, AgiBot, Alibaba). Severity: high
  • Absent from 2026 China robotics IPO wave, limiting capital access versus listing peers. Severity: medium
  • Conflicting, unaudited funding and headcount data create transparency and governance uncertainty. Severity: medium

Questions people ask
Is AUBO Robotics profitable in 2026?
No audited profit figures are public. AUBO's chairman told state media that cobot sales surpassed 1 billion yuan (about $139 million) in 2024, giving it over 36% of China's domestic cobot market, but profitability itself has not been disclosed as of mid-2026.
Who owns AUBO Robotics?
AUBO Robotics is privately held and VC/PE backed, not publicly listed as of July 2026. Chinese conglomerate Fosun invested $9 million in November 2017; no confirmed IPO plan exists, unlike peers Unitree and AgiBot who are actively pursuing listings in 2026.
Is AUBO Robotics planning an IPO?
No confirmed AUBO IPO filing was found as of July 2026. This contrasts with peers: Unitree got CSRC approval for a Shanghai STAR IPO on 2026-07-03 (~$6.2B valuation), and AgiBot is pursuing a Hong Kong IPO announced 2026-07-22.
Who is AUBO Robotics' biggest competitor?
Globally, Universal Robots (Teradyne) leads the cobot market with roughly 15% share as of 2026, while AUBO claims #1 in China (36% domestic share, 2024) and #2 worldwide. Domestically it also faces Dobot, JAKA, Elite Robots and six other Chinese cobot makers.
Could AI replace AUBO Robotics' cobot arms?
AI itself cannot replace a physical arm, but embodied-AI platforms from Unitree, AgiBot and Alibaba's Amap (full stack launched 2026-07-22) are building foundation-model 'brain' layers atop commodity arms, risking AUBO's hardware being reduced to an interchangeable component beneath someone else's AI stack.
What new product did AUBO Robotics launch in 2026?
In April 2026 AUBO launched its G-series adaptive cobots (G35/G40), rated for 35kg/40kg payloads with joint torque sensing, EtherCAT control, IP67 rating, explosion-proof design and a -10C to 50C operating range, aimed at heavy-duty industrial automation.
