The call

The real risk to Bank of China is US sanctions and courtroom fights over dollar clearing, not AI or any private rival.

Bank of China is China's second-largest bank, handling money transfers, deposits, and loans for businesses and people. It is very hard to replace because the Chinese government owns it and gives it exclusive rights to clear Chinese currency payments worldwide and issue banknotes in Hong Kong and Macau, no private bank can do those jobs. AI tools might handle customer calls and fraud checks faster, but they cannot take away the bank's charter or government support. The big risk is if the United States punishes Bank of China so severely for political reasons that it cannot do business globally anymore, which would hurt profits but probably not destroy the bank itself.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. AI agents can automate call centers, fraud checks, and credit scoring here, but none of that touches the banking license or clearing mandate. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: None apparent. No private company or foreign bank can take a Chinese state banking charter or RMB clearing mandate away from Bank of China. Could a giant copy it? No, they are blocked.
03
What protects it. It holds 16 of 35 global RMB clearing mandates and gets recapitalized directly by Beijing when needed.
