The call

BeZero holds real distribution and regulatory footing in a shrinking carbon market, while headcount and traffic both slide and bigger data firms circle from outside.

BeZero analyzes carbon credits and rates their real-world impact for big companies and governments. It is hard to replace because Bloomberg distributes its ratings, over 100 large corporations pay for it, and Singapore's environmental agency put it on an official panel, which gives it trust that competitors like Sylvera and Calyx lack. But that trust rests losing its protection: the whole carbon credit market is under fire for being unreliable, and the company just cut a quarter of its staff and lost a third of its web traffic in three months, suggesting either the AI is doing the old work faster now or companies have stopped buying. The one thing that could save it is if the European Union officially designates it as a trusted rater by late 2026, which would lock in customers and block Moody's and S&P from easily copying what it does.

Why
01
AI pressure: Generic AI tools for satellite imagery and document analysis, plus BeZero's own Cedar AI unit. AI speeds up credit analysis and could let others copy ratings cheaply, so BeZero bought an AI startup, Cedar, to stay ahead instead of falling behind. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Moody's and S&P Global, via their Sustainable1 ESG data arms. Both firms already sell ESG and climate data and could launch a competing carbon-ratings product using existing distribution, but neither has shipped one yet. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Regulatory and institutional trust: Bloomberg Terminal distribution, 100+ corporate subscribers, and a named seat on Singapore's official carbon-rating panel.
What would change this call
Moody's or S&P Global (Sustainable1) launches a competing carbon-ratings product. Would show a deep-pocketed incumbent entering BeZero's core niche.
BeZero headcount and web traffic trend over next two quarters. Reversal signals demand recovery; further decline signals down-round or demand softness.
EU names officially regulated carbon raters (expected late 2026). Inclusion would cement BeZero's regulatory moat; exclusion would weaken it.
Key numbers
  • $32M Series C led by GenZero (Temasek-founded) (2025-01-15)
  • Named to Singapore NEA's 3-firm rating panel (2025-11-10)
  • Headcount down 25% year over year (2026-06-24)
Named risks
  • Voluntary carbon market credibility crisis undermines demand for third-party ratings. Severity: high
  • Headcount down 25.2% YoY and traffic down 32% QoQ signal possible demand softness or down-round. Severity: high
  • Moody's or S&P Global could launch a directly competing carbon-ratings product using existing institutional trust. Severity: medium
  • Cedar acquisition (June 2026) integration and team retention outcome still unproven. Severity: medium
  • Watchdog studies found inconsistent ratings across BeZero and peers, inviting regulatory scrutiny of methodology. Severity: medium

Questions people ask
Is BeZero Carbon profitable in 2026?
BeZero Carbon has not disclosed audited revenue or profitability figures. It has raised capital through a $32M Series C in January 2025 led by Temasek-founded GenZero, bringing prior funding rounds together, and closed an acquisition of AI startup Cedar in June 2026, but no primary profit data exists.
What is BeZero Carbon's valuation?
BeZero Carbon has no primary-source-confirmed valuation. Third-party data vendors give wildly conflicting estimates differing by more than 10x, and neither figure is corroborated by a press release, so any specific valuation figure circulating should be treated as unverified as of mid 2026.
Could AI replace BeZero Carbon's ratings business?
Co-founder Sebastien Cross said in February 2024 that AI, including computer vision and document synthesis, is 'set to change the way BeZero operates.' AI can automate document review and imagery analysis, but BeZero's Bloomberg distribution and Singapore NEA panel seat (November 2025) remain harder to replicate.
Who are BeZero Carbon's biggest competitors?
BeZero's direct rivals are Sylvera and Calyx Global, both named alongside BeZero to Singapore's National Environment Agency carbon-ratings panel in November 2025. A smaller rival, Renoster, is less capitalized. Moody's and S&P Global (via Sustainable1) are potential future entrants but have not shipped a competing product.
Is BeZero Carbon regulated?
BeZero was selected in November 2025 alongside Sylvera and Calyx Global for Singapore's National Environment Agency official carbon-ratings panel. A vendor-reported source from June 2026 says BeZero expects EU ESG-related regulatory designation later in 2026, but this is not yet confirmed by any regulator.
What does BeZero Carbon actually sell?
BeZero sells the BeZero Carbon Rating (BCR), an 8-point letter-grade scale from AAA to D assessing whether a carbon credit project delivers its claimed CO2e outcome, distributed via subscription and the Bloomberg Terminal since 2024, with over 100 corporate subscribers reported in January 2025.
