The call

Bitget is gaining share in a market Binance still controls, with EU licensing and reserve trends set to shape what happens next.

Bitget runs a trading platform where people bet on whether crypto prices will go up or down. It has over 125 million users and is gaining market share, but it competes directly against much larger exchanges like Binance that can quickly copy anything Bitget invents, from copy-trading tools to AI trading agents. The one thing that could change the picture is whether Bitget can get its EU business license approved under new rules and whether its customer protection fund stays strong enough if the market crashes, since that fund has been shrinking and could become a real problem if it falls too low.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. Bitget AI agents drive $1.2B monthly volume and 1M+ users, adding trades rather than replacing the exchange. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: Binance. Binance holds 33-36% derivatives share and can copy Bitget's copy-trading, TradFi, and AI features within a quarter. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Fast product shipping (TradFi perps, AI agents, tokenized stocks) keeps Bitget ahead of slower rivals, but nothing stops copying.
What would change this call
Whether Bitget secures an EU MiCA license within 12 months. Denial or delay would materially restrict its EMEA market access and growth.
Whether the BaFin investigation into Bitget's operating entity resolves or escalates. Escalation would signal regulatory trust risk that could push users to rivals.
Whether Bitget's Protection Fund reserve ratio falls below 120% in coming reports. Continued compression from 169% to 130% would signal weakening financial buffer.

Questions people ask
Is Bitget profitable in 2026?
Bitget does not publish audited financials. Third party aggregators cite roughly $20.3M revenue as of July 2026, but this figure looks implausibly low for an exchange with 125M+ users and is treated as unverified and likely stale.
Could AI replace Bitget as a trading platform?
No. Bitget itself deploys AI agents like GetClaw for autonomous trading, reaching 1 million AI users and $1.2 billion in AI trading volume by May 2026, but this feeds exchange volume rather than replacing it; custody, licensing and liquidity remain human-run moats.
Who is Bitget's biggest competitor?
Binance, which holds roughly 33 to 36% of derivatives market share as of Q1 2026 per Coinglass, dwarfing Bitget which ranks top-5 globally behind Binance, OKX, Bybit, and Gate.
Who owns Bitget?
Bitget is privately held, registered in Seychelles with workforce operations centered in Singapore. Its last disclosed funding was a $10M strategic round from Dragonfly Capital in April 2023; no IPO or acquisition has occurred since.
How many users does Bitget have in 2026?
Bitget reports 125 million plus registered users as of mid-2026, according to its own blog citing CEO Gracy Chen, alongside 60 million plus users of its affiliated Bitget Wallet.
Does Bitget have an EU MiCA license?
As of June 2026, Bitget had not yet obtained an EU MiCA license, per Webopedia's June 2026 review, a regulatory overhang as MiCA rolls out across Europe while BaFin separately investigates its BG Limited operating entity.
