The call

Blend has an AI product that works and keeps growing modestly, but ICE and nCino are larger, better funded, and already pulling customers away.

Blend Labs makes software that handles the paperwork and verification steps in getting a mortgage, including a tool called Autopilot that helps lenders process applications faster. The company built real advantages against basic AI tools because mortgage lending has strict rules and liability concerns that raw AI cannot handle safely. However, ICE Mortgage Technology and nCino are much bigger competitors with more money and resources, and they are building similar tools and winning customers away from Blend; the company's revenue dropped 47% from its 2022 peak because of this competition, not AI. The question that will determine Blend's future is whether Autopilot can sign up 20 or more major lenders in the next couple of years, which would show the business can grow again; if that stalls or if major customers leave, the stock will likely fall further.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. Blend built its own AI agent, Autopilot, on Anthropic's MCP, and keeps decisioning with the lender, blocking raw model replacement. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: ICE Mortgage Technology (Encompass). ICE runs a $2.1B profitable mortgage tech segment and has taken share from Blend for three straight years. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Deep workflow lock-in inside lenders' loan systems plus compliance positioning that keeps decisioning liability with the bank, not the software.

Questions people ask
Is Blend Labs profitable in 2026?
No. Blend posted a GAAP net loss of $8.0M in Q1 2026 despite revenue of $30.8M (+15% YoY), and a full-year 2025 net loss of $25.89M on $123.59M revenue, as of May 7, 2026 and July 7, 2026 reporting respectively.
