The call

Blockdaemon still moves real institutional money, but its valuation is sliding, its independence is unclear after the Taurus deal, and bigger players are closing in on the same customers.

Blockdaemon helps large financial companies and cryptocurrency firms run blockchain networks securely. It has real customers and revenue, but the core service of running network nodes is becoming easier to copy as the market gets crowded, especially with Coinbase Cloud and other well-funded rivals offering similar tools. The biggest question mark is a deal with a company called Taurus announced in February 2026 that nobody is quite sure is a partnership or a full takeover by a German bank, and clarifying that ownership change over the next six months will determine whether Blockdaemon stays independent or gets absorbed into a larger player.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. AI does not run regulated validators or hold custody keys; Blockdaemon is testing AI as a control-plane add-on, not fighting an AI eater. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Coinbase Cloud, Fireblocks, Bitwise/Chorus One. Coinbase Cloud and Fireblocks already sit between banks and node infrastructure, and Bitwise/Chorus One are consolidating the staking market around them. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. SOC 2 certification, $110B+ in assets already plugged in, and 400+ institutional clients who are slow to switch providers.
What would change this call
Whether the Taurus deal is confirmed as an acquisition rather than a partnership. Would show Blockdaemon lost independence to a Deutsche Bank-backed entity.
Blockdaemon reports verified revenue growth or a new funding round at or above $2B valuation. Would show the business is stabilizing rather than contracting.
Further headcount reduction or a down-round with new liquidation preferences. Would show deepening financial distress.

Questions people ask
Is Blockdaemon profitable in 2026?
No verified profitability data exists. The last concrete growth figure Blockdaemon disclosed was a self-reported 20x revenue increase year-over-year around its September 2021 Series B raise; no comparable revenue figures have been published since, leaving current financial health unverified.
Who owns Blockdaemon now, is it acquired by Taurus?
Unclear as of July 2026. Taurus (backed by Deutsche Bank and Credit Suisse) announced a strategic partnership with Blockdaemon on February 12, 2026 combining staking with custody for banks, described by both companies as an integration, not an acquisition, per Taurus's own blog.
Who is Blockdaemon's biggest competitor?
Institutional staking rival Chorus One was absorbed into Bitwise as Bitwise Onchain Solutions, consolidating a direct peer into a larger, better-capitalized player. Blockdaemon also competes with Coinbase Cloud, Fireblocks, and commodity node providers like Alchemy and QuickNode.
Could AI replace Blockdaemon's business?
Unlikely to fully replace it. Basic node monitoring and RPC access are automatable and already commoditized, but Blockdaemon's SOC 2 Type II compliance, MPC custody integrations, and regulated validator operations resist pure AI substitution. Blockdaemon itself launched an AI agent control-plane product in June 2026 to serve regulated institutions.
How much funding has Blockdaemon raised and what is its valuation?
Blockdaemon raised $155M in a September 2021 Series B at roughly $1.3B valuation led by SoftBank Vision Fund 2, then $207M in a January 2022 Series C at a $3.25B post-money valuation led by Sapphire Ventures and Tiger Global, its last publicly confirmed valuation.
What does Blockdaemon actually do?
Blockdaemon provides institutional blockchain infrastructure: managed nodes, staking-as-a-service, MPC wallets, and blockchain APIs. As of July 2025 it secured over $110B in digital assets for 400+ institutional clients, with $10B+ staked and 200,000 to 250,000+ nodes managed across 50 to 70+ protocols, per its own reporting.
