The call

Buildxact keeps running on its existing base of builders while Buildertrend and newer AI tools press on the same estimating workflow it depends on.

Buildxact sells software that helps small residential builders create estimates and manage jobs. The company is hard to replace because builders get used to their tools and switching is annoying, but Buildertrend already dominates this category and new AI-powered estimating tools (like those from Werx) can now do the core work of takeoff and estimate generation faster and cheaper, which is what Buildxact's software is built around. The one thing that could change this is if Buildxact finds a way to add AI to its own platform that customers love enough to stick around, or gets acquired or funded to pivot, but with flat headcount for five years and shrinking web traffic, neither looks likely right now.

Why
01
AI pressure: AI-native estimating tools like Werx and vision/LLM takeoff apps. Vision and LLM tools can generate takeoffs and estimates directly from plans, the exact task Buildxact charges for. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: Buildertrend. Buildertrend already leads the category, absorbed CoConstruct in 2021, and is building its own AI estimating features. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Years of stored job histories, supplier price lists, and workflow habits make builders slow to switch systems.
What would change this call
Buildxact announces new funding round or valuation by mid-2027. Shows investors still believe in growth story despite 4.5-year funding gap.
Buildxact headcount rises above ~96 or web traffic reverses its -20% QoQ decline. Would indicate stalled growth is turning around, not worsening.
Buildertrend ships AI-driven takeoff or estimating features matching Blu AI. Would show the category leader closing Buildxact's main product differentiator.

  • No new funding disclosed since January 2022, roughly 4.5 years, amid flat headcount. Severity: high
  • Headcount down -2.1% YoY and web traffic down -20% QoQ as of June 2026 signal stalled growth. Severity: high

Questions people ask
Is Buildxact profitable in 2026?
No public financials are disclosed since Buildxact is private. A third-party estimate (Datanyze, undated) puts revenue near $18.3M, but the company itself has not confirmed profitability. Its last disclosed funding was a January 2022 Series A of AU$18.5M.
Who is Buildxact's biggest competitor?
Buildertrend is Buildxact's main rival in residential builder software, having absorbed CoConstruct in February 2021 to broaden its lead. Buildxact stays narrower, focused on takeoff and estimating rather than full job management.
Could AI replace Buildxact's core product?
Buildxact's own core task, digital takeoff and estimate generation, is exactly what AI vision and LLM tools can automate. The company responded by launching its Blu AI assistant in June 2025, which completed over 8,740 takeoffs by November 2025.
Has Buildxact raised new funding recently?
No new funding round has been publicly disclosed since Buildxact's January 2022 Series A of AU$18.5M (about US$14M) led by Regal Funds Management, which valued the company over AU$125M post-money. As of June 2026, no new round has followed.
Is Buildxact growing or shrinking?
Growth has stalled: headcount fell -2.1% year over year to about 93-96 employees by June 2026, and web traffic dropped roughly 20% quarter over quarter in the same period, per Crustdata data.
Who owns Buildxact and who runs it?
Buildxact is privately held and venture-backed, with investors including Regal Funds Management, Possible Ventures and Washington H. Soul Pattinson from its January 2022 Series A. Steve Yates became CEO in May 2024, succeeding David Murray.
