The call

Carson keeps adding assets and advisor teams fast, but its last outside valuation is five years old and its AI tools are not unique among RIA aggregators.

Carson Group buys up independent wealth management firms and runs them under one banner, collecting about $60 billion in client money as of 2026. It is hard to copy because clients stick around once enrolled, advisors face legal locks, and Carson owns detailed household financial data, plus the regulatory bar to enter this business is high. However, it looks almost identical to Focus Financial, Wealth Enhancement, and Cerity, which are chasing the same pool of advisors with similar technology, so Carson has no clear edge over them. The big question mark is valuation: the company was last valued at $1 billion in 2021, but it has tripled its assets under management since then, so nobody knows if it is worth $2 billion, $4 billion, or something else until it sells shares to the public or to investors.

Why
01
AI pressure: AI advisor tools like Morgan Stanley's AI assistant or Carson's own Steve/Bedrock tool. AI planning tools are available to Carson and every rival RIA aggregator, so it does not separate Carson from Focus or Wealth Enhancement. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: Focus Financial, Wealth Enhancement Group, Cerity Partners, Mariner. Other RIA aggregators bid for the same breakaway advisor teams and acquisition targets Carson wants, with no clear edge for Carson. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Fiduciary client relationships, household data, and regulatory friction make switching advisors and platforms slow and sticky.
What would change this call
Carson Group announces a new valuation via IPO, secondary sale, or PE round. Shows whether Carson's growth since 2021 has translated into a higher market valuation.
Carson reports two consecutive quarters of net billion-dollar-team losses to Focus or Wealth Enhancement. Would show peer aggregators are winning the same advisor teams Carson relies on for growth.
Morgan Stanley or Merrill launches a shipped AI advisor product aimed at retaining breakaway advisors. Would show wirehouses countering the breakaway flow that currently favors Carson.
Key numbers
  • AUM over $60B, 60,000+ households, 165+ offices (2026-07-29)
  • $1B valuation from Bain Capital deal (2021-07-14)
  • 12 acquisitions in H1 2026, most of any RIA dealmaker (2026-07-29)
Named risks
  • No public valuation update since the 2021 $1 billion Bain Capital mark despite 3.5x AUM growth, leaving equity value opaque. Severity: medium
  • AI moat is thin since Steve and Bedrock tools are accessible to peer aggregators, reducing differentiation. Severity: medium
  • Rapid M&A integration pace (12 transactions in H1 2026) raises practice-absorption and culture-integration risk. Severity: medium
  • Dependence on AWS/Amazon Bedrock for AI stack amid Amazon's reported July 2026 overhaul deprecating most Nova models. Severity: medium
  • Compliance and fiduciary enforcement exposure, evidenced by a late-2025 advisor discharge over audit deficiencies. Severity: low

Questions people ask
Is Carson Group profitable in 2026?
Carson Group does not publicly disclose audited revenue or profit figures. What is verified is asset growth: AUM rose from about $17B in July 2021 to over $60B by July 29, 2026, with 165+ partner offices, suggesting strong top-line momentum even without disclosed profitability.
Could AI replace Carson Group's financial advisors?
Unlikely soon. Carson's own AI assistant Steve, launched May 2025 and expanded with Bedrock-based Client Intelligence in March 2026, automates note-taking and data lookup, but SEC fiduciary duty and compliance liability still require licensed human advisors, as shown by Carson discharging an advisor for compliance failures in late 2025.
Who owns Carson Group?
Founder Omani (Ron) Carson holds majority ownership as of July 21, 2026. Bain Capital acquired Long Ridge Equity Partners' 29 percent stake plus added growth capital on July 14, 2021, valuing Carson Group at over $1 billion, a mark unchanged in public reporting through mid 2026.
Who is Carson Group's biggest competitor?
Carson Group competes with peer RIA aggregators Focus Financial Partners, Wealth Enhancement Group, Cerity Partners, Sanctuary Wealth, and Mariner for advisor teams, while also pulling breakaway advisors away from wirehouses like Wells Fargo, including a $1.76B AUM team recruited July 29, 2026.
What is Carson Group's valuation as of 2026?
The last publicly disclosed valuation is over $1 billion, set July 14, 2021 when Bain Capital bought into the firm. No newer valuation, funding round, or IPO has been reported as of July 21, 2026, despite AUM growing roughly 3.5 times since that 2021 mark.
Is Carson Group growing or shrinking in 2026?
Growing. Carson Group surpassed $50B AUM in October 2025, reached over $57B by April 2026, and topped $60B by July 29, 2026, adding 60,000+ client families and 165+ partner offices, including recruiting a $1.76B Wells Fargo advisor team that same month.
