The call

Casa's key-holding role is hard for AI or big custodians to copy, but the company itself hasn't raised money since 2022 and is riding out a bitcoin price slump against well-funded peers.

Casa helps people store Bitcoin using a setup where multiple keys are needed to move the money, so no single person can steal it. It's hard to copy because Casa takes legal responsibility if something goes wrong with your recovery key (the backup way to access your Bitcoin if you lose the main key), and they have compliance paperwork that takes time to build. But competitors like Unchained and Onramp do nearly the same thing, Bitcoin's price has fallen since last year, and Casa hasn't raised money since 2022, so the real risk is whether they stay funded long enough to survive the downturn without being forced into a bad deal.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. AI can automate onboarding chat and support tickets, but it can't take legal liability for a lost recovery key or sign an inheritance claim. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: Coinbase Custody, Kraken, Fidelity Digital Assets, or a bank entering non-custodial multisig. Big custodians currently profit from holding client keys themselves, so building a non-custodial rival would cut against their own business model. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Casa's staff carries real legal liability for recovery keys and inheritance, a role a algorithm or a custodial bank can't casually copy.
What would change this call
Casa announces new funding round or discloses audited revenue growth within 12 months. Would show Casa can stay capitalized through the bitcoin downturn without a distressed raise.
Coinbase Custody, Fidelity Digital Assets, or a bank ships a non-custodial multisig product. Would show a large incumbent can bypass Casa's liability-based moat.
Casa reports layoffs or Unchained/Onramp announce major institutional wins over Casa. Would show Casa losing ground to peers or sector stress hitting it directly.
