Ceffu
Institutional crypto custody spun out of Binance, settling trades off exchange.
Ceffu's entire business is welded to Binance's liquidity and reputation, so whatever happens to Binance in the DOJ probe happens to Ceffu too.
Ceffu helps move crypto assets between exchanges and banks by connecting directly to Binance's trading platform and holding licenses from Dubai, Bhutan, and (potentially) Singapore. This direct Binance connection is hard to copy, but it is also Ceffu's biggest weakness: if Binance faces serious legal trouble from U.S. authorities investigating sanctions violations, Ceffu loses its main advantage. At the same time, BitGo just went public and got a U.S. national bank charter in early 2026, which lets it offer similar services without relying on any single exchange. The one thing that could change everything is whether Ceffu wins its Singapore banking license and whether Binance's legal problems get resolved quickly or drag on for years.
Ceffu's MAS Singapore CMS license is granted or denied. Tests whether Ceffu can gain regulatory standing independent of Binance.
BitGo announces institutional custody mandates unrelated to Binance ecosystem. Would show BitGo converting its OCC charter into market share Ceffu is losing.
- Tokenized RWA market reached about $24B
- Binance TH keeps 90%+ user assets in Ceffu cold storage
- Ceffu rebranded from Binance Custody
- Core moat structurally welded to Binance amid active DOJ sanctions-evasion investigation, March 2026.
- BitGo's OCC federal trust charter and IPO outflank Ceffu's 'independent' custody positioning.
- Singapore MAS Capital Markets Services license still pending as of latest reporting.
- Public financial and headcount data for Ceffu is contradictory and low-confidence across aggregators.
| Rival | Direction | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| BitGo | gaining on | IPO plus OCC national trust bank charter, January 2026, undercuts Ceffu's independence claim |
| Coinbase Custody | losing to | Leads crypto hedge fund custodian market with ~32% share as of March 2026, Ceffu absent from top tables |
| Fireblocks | contesting | Holds ~14% custodian market share and offers exchange-neutral infrastructure as of March 2026 |
| Copper | contesting | Direct off-exchange settlement competitor via ClearLoop product |
- Is Ceffu owned by Binance?
- Ceffu markets itself as an independent institutional custody partner, but it began life as Binance's internal custody arm, rebranding from 'Binance Custody' to Ceffu in February 2023. Its own site still calls it 'the only institutional custody partner of the Binance Exchange,' showing operational ties remain deep despite the independence branding.
- Who is Ceffu's biggest competitor?
- BitGo is Ceffu's sharpest rival: it completed an IPO in January 2026 and secured an OCC national trust bank charter, giving it federally regulated status that undercuts Ceffu's 'independent' positioning. Fireblocks and Coinbase Custody are also direct competitors in institutional digital-asset custody.
- Could AI replace Ceffu's custody business?
- No. Ceffu's value rests on regulated custody licenses (Dubai VARA full VASP, October 2025; Bhutan Financial Services License, June 2026) and exclusive Binance settlement integration, neither of which AI can substitute. AI could only touch peripheral compliance-monitoring workflows, not the licensed custody core.
- Is Ceffu profitable?
- No audited revenue or profit figures for Ceffu have been publicly disclosed as of mid-2026. The company discloses partnerships and licenses (e.g. BlackRock BUIDL custody, November 2025) rather than financials, so profitability cannot be independently confirmed from public sources.
- What regulatory licenses does Ceffu hold?
- As of June 2026, Ceffu holds a full Virtual Asset Service Provider license from Dubai's VARA (October 2025) and a full Financial Services License from Bhutan's Gelephu Mindfulness City covering custody, dealing as agent, and arranging credit (June 2026). A Singapore MAS Capital Markets Services license remains pending.
- Does Ceffu custody BlackRock's tokenized fund?
- Yes. Ceffu announced on November 14, 2025 that it provides custody and MirrorRSV integration for BlackRock's tokenized BUIDL fund, positioning it within the institutional real-world-asset custody space alongside RWA tokens like USYC and cUSDO.
