The call

ChargePoint has stopped bleeding on debt and losses but revenue growth is barely positive while Tesla's network keeps expanding around it.

ChargePoint owns and operates thousands of electric vehicle charging stations across the US and sells subscriptions to use them. The company is hard to replace because it has long-term contracts with utilities and property owners and customers who rely on its network, but Tesla's Supercharger network is faster, more convenient, and already dominates the market. The real question is whether ChargePoint can start growing its revenue again and stop losing money. So far it has not. The company has had to do two emergency fundraisings in the past year just to stay alive, which means existing shareholders have been heavily diluted. If the next earnings report shows the same flat revenue and losses continue, or if the company needs to raise more money, the stock could fall sharply.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. No AI-native product targets EV charging directly yet; AI-driven route/fleet apps could bypass ChargePoint's own app over time. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: Tesla Supercharger network. Tesla holds 53% of US charging stalls and higher customer satisfaction, now open to non-Tesla EVs via NACS, competing directly for the same drivers. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. 400,000+ installed ports, multi-year subscription contracts, and utility/permit relationships that are slow for anyone to replicate.
What would change this call
ChargePoint's Q2 FY2027 earnings (due ~Sept 2026) show revenue growth above or below 8% YoY. Above 8% would signal real re-acceleration; another flat quarter would confirm stagnation.
Any new dilutive equity raise or convertible debt exchange announced by ChargePoint in 2026. Would show the company still cannot fund operations without diluting shareholders.
ChargePoint stock falling back below $5 and triggering a new NYSE compliance notice. Would show the 2025 reverse split failed to fix the underlying valuation problem.
Key numbers
  • FY2026 revenue $411.2M, down 1% YoY (2026-01-31)
  • Q1 FY2027 revenue $101.8M, up 4% YoY (2026-04-30)
  • Debt cut $172M via Nov 2025 note exchange (2025-12-20)
Named risks
  • Repeated dilutive equity raises (e.g. $150M offering Dec 2025) eroding shareholder value. Severity: high
  • Federal policy reversal: 30C tax credit eliminated post-2025, NEVI funding frozen since Feb 2025. Severity: high
  • Ongoing securities fraud class action proceeding after dismissal denied May 2026. Severity: medium
  • NYSE listing compliance pressure after 2025 deficiency notice and reverse split. Severity: medium
  • Reliability and satisfaction lag versus Tesla (21% vs 4% failure rate) risking customer churn. Severity: medium

Questions people ask
Is ChargePoint profitable in 2026?
No. ChargePoint posted a net loss of $141.964 million for fiscal year 2026 (ended Jan 31, 2026), an improvement from the $224.971 million loss in FY2025 but still deeply unprofitable, per its March 2026 earnings release.
Is ChargePoint losing to Tesla in EV charging?
Yes. Tesla's Supercharger network held roughly 53.2% of US charging stalls as of Q3 2025 and ranked #1 in J.D. Power's 2025 satisfaction study (709/1000) versus ChargePoint's 619, well below the 654 segment average.
Could AI replace ChargePoint's business?
Unlikely soon. ChargePoint's value rests on 400,000+ physical charging ports, utility and permitting relationships, and multi-year contracts. Its November 2025 platform added AI-driven scheduling and maintenance features as enhancements, not replacements.
Who owns ChargePoint?
ChargePoint Holdings is publicly traded on the NYSE under CHPT with no parent company, having gone public via SPAC reverse merger in February 2021; it was originally founded in 2007 as Coulomb Technologies.
Is ChargePoint's revenue growing again?
Modestly. After FY2026 (ended Jan 31, 2026) revenue fell 1% to $411.2 million, Q1 FY2027 revenue rose 4% YoY to $101.8 million (reported June 17, 2026), with subscription revenue up 7% YoY.
Why did ChargePoint do a reverse stock split?
ChargePoint executed a 1-for-20 reverse stock split effective July 28, 2025, to regain compliance with NYSE minimum share price rules after receiving a deficiency notice in February 2025.
