CITIC Securities
China's largest brokerage and investment bank, state-linked, dual-listed in Shanghai and Hong Kong.
CITIC keeps its size and state backing, but its rank as China's biggest broker and its grip on Hong Kong deals are both slipping at the same time an unresolved probe hangs over its HK unit.
CITIC Securities is China's biggest state-owned investment bank, handling stock sales, trading, and advisory work across mainland China and Hong Kong. It is hard to replace because the Chinese government gives it special permits and access that foreign banks cannot easily get, and it has deep roots with local clients onshore. However, it is losing ground in Hong Kong (where it ranked first in IPOs two years ago but dropped to fourth in the first half of 2026), a Hong Kong and Singapore law enforcement team is investigating it for possible insider trading and bribery, and the Chinese government is pushing to merge the biggest investment banks into just two or three champions, which could force CITIC to combine with a rival. The key thing to watch is whether the criminal investigation stays contained to its Hong Kong branch or spreads to its mainland operations, which would be much more damaging.
H2 2026 and 2027 Hong Kong IPO underwriting league table rankings for CITIC. Shows if Wall Street's H1 2026 share gain in HK IPOs is a trend or one-off.
Any CSRC-directed merger talk pairing CITIC with China Securities or another peer. Would show CITIC becoming the absorbed side of state-led consolidation rather than the acquirer.
- FY2025 revenue RMB74.83B, up 28.75% YoY
- Total assets over RMB2 trillion, a first for a Chinese broker
- HK IPO underwriting rank fell from 1st to 4th in H1 2026
- Active SFC/ICAC Operation Fuse probe could escalate from HK unit to onshore license action.

- Continued Hong Kong IPO and placement market-share erosion into 2027.
- No public AI product disclosed versus peers like Citigroup, risking capability gap.
